Explaining the Aday Mara situation

Zaragoza are claiming they will block the Spaniard’s NBA debut due to him still being under contract with them through the 2026-27 season.

The OKC Thunder have been told by the NBA, that his three years of college basketball means there is no need to pay a buyout and he is cleared to play. The college basketball makes it slightly different as the landscape is changing.

International players heading to the NBA will usually result in a buyout. For example, Tarik Biberovic had a $2 million buyout with Fenerbahce. The Dallas Mavericks paid the NBA maximum of $900,000, with Biberovic covering the remaining $1.1 million.

Even Luka Doncic was slightly impacted by his buyout. If you remember, Luka never played in Summer League due to his buyout from Real Madrid being late.

In my opinion, I don’t think Mara’s debut will be impacted and if anything there may be a small buyout agreed. The amount will of course mean far more to Zaragoza than OKC. This is a thing that happens often, but with the college landscape changing it just makes this situation a bit murky.

Brewers sweep the Dodgers to heat to the World Series!

I actually cannot believe those words came out of my mouth! After what happened last year. Trailing all four games this year to come out on top and head to the World Series.

This team never gives up and this year they believed they could beat the Dodgers and they did it emphatically.

The starting pitching stood strong. Jackson Chourio led the offense. Garrett Mitchell with some huge home runs. Rake Bauers winning NLCS MVP. The bullpen shutting down the elite Dodgers lineup.

I love this team so much! I’d love to be in Milwaukee for it but I’ll be watching in the early hours here in England cheering the lads on. Hope everyone enjoys it as I know how much it means to the city, state and most importantly the people that have supported and followed this great team through some tough years.

That being said, the job isn’t done yet! by @moxonsports

Brewers on verge of the World Series and sweeping the Dodgers

What a team! What a performance on the road! Bobby Gas was phenomenal. Jackson Chourio brilliant again. Rake Bauers has been great with his long at-bats before taking Blake Snell deep, followed by Garrett Mitchell going yard straight after. Joey Ortiz adds an insurance run and the bullpen shuts the door.

This team just doesn’t give up. Down in the 6th and the league average to win from that point is 10%, the Brewers win 25% of games they are down in the 6th.

This year they believe they can go beat the Dodgers. by @moxonsports

5 Things we learnt from the Bucks loss to the Bulls

Kam Jones a great performance with 23 points, shooting 64.3% from the field. He’s clearly a very talented player, just being on a two-way deal and the roster being as packed as it is means he will likely struggle for minutes. This performance did him no harm though.

Kasparas Jakucionis and Brayden Burries were fun as a backcourt together. Burries finished with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. KJ had 18 and 6 assists. They could be a nice pairing off the bench and complement each other well, along with being a potential pairing in the future.

The 3-point shooting has been a nightmare in preseason. Maybe some rust, maybe figuring things out, but 23.3% last night and 30% over the four preseason games is pretty scary for a team that despite being bad in recent years, have still managed to be one of the more efficient from deep.

30 turnovers last night. Don’t think I need to add to that 😅

Cormac Ryan had a solid game with 14 points and 6 rebounds whilst being one of the few efficient shooters. Similar to Jones, on a two-way it’s difficult to see him getting minutes whilst the roster looks the way it does. by @moxonsports

Besiktas sign NBA veteran Lonnie Walker after his release from the Denver Nuggets

Another NBA player heads to EuroLeague after Walker initially signed a training camp deal with the Nuggets, but after two preseason games they parted ways and he swiftly signed with the Turkish side.

Last season, he averaged 15 points and shot 40% from deep across all competitions with Maccabi. I really like this as an addition for Besiktas after their decent start to the EuroLeague season.

It is not secret I am a fan of their coach and the roster, but Walker gives them a bit extra offensive firepower they were perhaps lacking. I’m surprised it’s the backcourt they addressed first as I personally think the wings are perhaps the weakest area of the roster.

Real Madrid were looking at him before he headed to Denver, but as a move for Besiktas I am a big fan of this! by @moxonsports

EuroLeague Round 5 Round-Up

Hapoel convincingly beat Besiktas thanks to an offensive clinic. 55% from deep and 53% from 2-point range was just too much for the Turkish side to keep up with. Five players scored 15 or more points for the hosts, as a 17-1 run late in the third propelled them back to winning ways.

Bayern ended a three game losing streak on the road against Anadolu Efes. The big difference was shooting 43% from deep compared to Efes shooting just 28%. Duane Washington has played really well lately as he finished with 21 points and Andreas Obst had 20.

Are Virtus Bologna the next team we all predicted to struggle but could make the playoffs like Valencia and Paris in recent years? Their third straight win in a very tight affair in which Paris missed a game winning shot through Tyson Ettiene. Derrick Alston was very good again for Bologna with 23 points. by @moxonsports

Wild EuroLeague Night!!! Olympiacos with a ridiculous comeback and two buzzer beaters!

Olympiacos came back from down 28 to win the most ridiculous game of the season in overtime against Valencia. Late missed free throws and big shots saw things get crazier and crazier. The reigning champs closed it out in OT to show why they won it all last season.

Zeljko Obradovic had a hero’s welcome by the Partizan faithful as his Panathinaikos won on the road in a very hard fought game. Pao remain unbeaten and after a cagey first half, Panathinaikos went on an 11-0 run to open up the lead and keep the hosts at bay. Partizan shot just 4-26 from deep as they totalled just 55 points with both sides playing stern defense.

The first of two crazy buzzer beater’s was Chris Jones hitting a pull up mid ranger to earn Crvena Zvezda a huge road win against Asvel. The game swung back and forth throughout and neither team carved out a double digit lead. Chima Moneke led the way for the visitors with 18 points.

It didn’t take long for Justin Robinson to one up Jones with a buzzer beater from 3-point range as Barcelona beat Maccabi. Another game where neither team had a double digit lead at any point and despite the hosts leading most of the second half, Maccabi never gave up. Robinson came in clutch as he finished with 11 and Kevin Punter led the way with 19.

Fenerbahce returned to winning ways in style with an impressive win over Zalgiris. The defense was strong as always but their 3-point shooting was brilliant all night. They had a 22 point lead I. The first half and despite a fight back from Zalgiris, the third quarter really put the game out of reach.

Real Madrid are back to 2-3 after winning on the road against Milan. A 32 point second quarter from the visitors opened up a 13 point lead at the break. They extended that lead to 22 points in the third but Milan made a game of it late on, however a 6-0 run sealed the win for the Spaniards as Milan drop to 1-4.

The final game was Dubai’s win on the road against Baskonia. The hosts controlled the first half but Dubai went up a level after the break and led by as many as 19. by @moxonsports

Premier League Gameweek 6 Letterboxd Edition

Another good week of Prem action with plenty of talking points! Here are a few of my favourite performances.

Bobby Thomas was a brick wall in Coventry’s emphatic win over Newcastle. He put his body on the line, won everything in the air and his goal line block at 1-0 was crucial to the Sky blues running out 4-1 winners.

Bournemouth had a nightmare against Chelsea and I’m not sure many of us expected to see Jordan Henderson be the key piece to the win. Two stunning goals and an assist in a brilliant performance. He might become a permanent fixture of that midfield.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has started the season well and he was integral in Everton 2-2 draw with Hull. A great header and an assist, albeit fortunate, will take the attention but his ball carrying to get his team up the pitch and defensive work have been big in Everton’s positive start to the season.

The final player was in possibly the performance of the weekend as Brighton went up to Sunderland and won 2-0, despite being down to 10 men for most of the game. Ferdi Kadioglu took his time to get going when he signed with the seagulls but now he is showing that quality. He’s very good going forward, but it was his defensive work I loved on Saturday.

Let me know whose performance you enjoyed this weekend? by @moxonsports

Brewers beat the Dodgers to take a 2-0 lead in the NLCS

Another great performance from the guys! Logan Henderson with two really bad throwing errors, but apart from that I thought he pitched well. The team rallies around him to pull him out the hole and go after Yamamoto and they did brilliantly!

Jake Bauers came through, Christian Yelich stepped up, Brice Turang looks to have gotten the postseason monkey off his back and what more is there to say about William Contreras! Just wow! Great name too 🙂

The bullpen does what they do best and shutdown the Dodgers offense once again for an emphatic victory.

Let me know your thoughts Brewers fans and it’s on to LA for game 3. by @moxonsports

5 Things we learnt from Bucks loss to Hornets

Tyler Herro can become an All-Star this season. He’ll be a huge part of the offense not only with his self shot creation but also creating for others. Seven rebounds on the night, which is a damning indictment on the rebounding performance from the rest of the team.

Kel’el Ware has clearly been the standout player so far this preseason and looks exactly like the blue chip prospect the Bucks were hoping for. Myles Turner had a poor game starting at center, and I liked the two in the frontcourt together. Some intriguing decisions Taylor Jenkins has to make.

Jericho Sims has really gone under the radar as he’s been impactful in all preseason games. Six points, six rebounds last night and he offers a different frontcourt threat but is athletic and versatile enough to contribute defensively. Definitely a role for him on this team at the minute.

Just 90 points on the night, shooting 36% from the field, 32% from deep and just 58% from the free throw line. Not a great night offensively and they struggled to score against the Timberwolves as well. Hopefully just rust but there could be some really tough watches this season.

Finally, that Gary Trent Jr. performance. 0-for-8 from the field just did not do him the world of good. Who knows what comes of the investigation. It’s a hard contract to move as well. It’s a rebuild and I’d like to see the Bucks go all in with the young guards as there is so much talent, they just need to let the handbrake off and go make those mistakes and learn from them.

Let me know what you made of the game if you did watch! I know most of you would’ve enjoyed the Packers or Brewers game instead of this 😅 by @moxonsports

Brewers beat Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLCS

You have to win the Misiorowksi starts and the Brewers do just that. He maybe didn’t have his best stuff on the night but still performed well along with the defense behind him.

Brice Turang put to bed some postseason sluggishness with his first homer of the playoffs, before Luis Lara met the moment to ultimately win the game for the crew.

As we’ve seen so many times this postseason, the bullpen comes in clutch to shut down the opponents as the Brewers win another tight and stressful game.

Up 1-0, onto Game 2 tonight with Yamamoto vs Henderson.

I’ll be live on TikTok watching the game so you’re all invited to join and we can talk all sorts of things!
