The MPD Marksmanship Team completed its 4th annual shooting competition. This match is held just for our officers and is used as an intro to competitive shooting with a focus on the fundamental skills to protect themselves on duty.

This year we had 42 participants. Out of an agency with roughly 200 officers that is a huge turnout.

These videos are of some of our members running through the course of fire. We had one stage to allow on duty personnel and people with tight schedules to come down and participate.

We were limited due to our indoor range but still managed to train, rearward movement, use of cover, long distance pistol marksmanship, moving into cover positions, shooting on the move, and target to target transitions.

If you’re in LE and are looking to expand your skills, drop a note in the comments and I’ll tag some trainers and shooters that you should check out. by @mpd_marksmanship_team

Every now and then, the team will travel a bit to compete. Just recently returned from Utah for the @pcs_league 2 Gun Nationals.

Shot with other cops from Texas, DC, Virginia, Wyoming, and more.

One of the goals of the team is to introduce performance shooting skills to law enforcement.

Keep an eye out in 2026 because @hero_down_foundation @johnny_hero_down_ has some big things planned.

2026 is going to be a big year for law enforcement and shooting competitions. by @mpd_marksmanship_team

@hero_down_foundation match year five in the books at @ridgeline_defense. Great match for a great cause with @joinmanchester_nhpd having two teams competing. by @mpd_marksmanship_team

The team is getting an upgrade with their jerseys. When the team was created over 3 years ago, we wanted the bright blue jerseys to catch people’s attention to highlight the team. The jerseys are older and worn and a lot of them have shrunk. That company is no longer in business as well, so it was time for a change.

So while we might not be as bright colored anymore, we can now protect ourselves from the elements with these awesome new sun shirts.

We were promised that these shirts would increase our shooting ability 105% while making us look cooler…. The jury is still out on this 😅 by @mpd_marksmanship_team

The team traveled to compete in the biannual World Police & Fire Games in Birmingham Alabama @bhm2025

These are Olympic style events with some non-traditional sports included, all involving 8100 athletes from 72 countries.

We went toe to toe with some of the best law enforcement shooters in the world.

MPD Marksmanship Team traveled to Utah to compete in the @utle_matches Utah Law Enforcement Pistol Championship. Despite being held in Utah, it drew cops from all over the country.

Strong finish by placing 20th out of 339 shooters.

Give those guys a follow and travel for the match next year. You won’t regret it. by @mpd_marksmanship_team

Just finished up with our departmental shooting competition. The Marksmanship Team has been putting on this event for the last 3 years as a way to get officers exposed to more advanced shooting techniques and compete in a fun environment against their coworkers.

The limitations of the indoor range can still allow for a challenging course of fire. All the skills were tested. Accuracy at distance, positional shooting, moving while shooting, movement from positions, decision making, and high risk / low percentage shots.

Happy to see a wide range of participation, from Captains and detectives down to patrol officers. by @mpd_marksmanship_team

Throwback to when the temperature was above freezing. We’re still grinding away but the winter time has forced us indoors for some small matches and dry fire sessions. Keep an eye on the @sigsaueracademy for indoor matches this season. by @mpd_marksmanship_team

Thanks to @lukewarm_foto for the awesome pictures of the squad. Amazing match this weekend and to top it off our team captain took home the top shot award! @ridgeline_training_center and @herodownshootoutchallenge can’t wait to see you next year by @mpd_marksmanship_team
