Documenting life, comedy, and anything in between.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Widescreen version. I prefer this because it is how I will publish and is better than the algo-preferred portrait/squares.

And yes, I decided to start saying MPDX Documentary Films because there are other things I'm working on that are not all about comedy, like my experience working for a tribal government, wine country, and food/culture.

Thank you.

A roughly fine cut of last Wednesday dropping in on YAMS after Shanny's mic.

I got a lot of good footage that night. Lots of comedians. More to come.

This was working on using the shots to progress and tell the story. I left the audio unchanged. That's what a mic is like. A little bit of controlled chaos in this rough cut. So cool to capture it. It felt like a special night.

The typing on a keyboard is like me all day, every day working and hustling from my computer. Making applications and video editing into the night.

Can't stop, won't stop.

This is my first set ever at Helium PDX's open mic. I went bullet.

Thanks to @heliumcomedypdx for the time. Thanks to @randalllawrence1984 for the sweet HD footage and audio (was this on the Sony FX6?)

Thanks to @itsrachellecochran for the funny host open leaving me a warm crowd to work on.

Also thanks to @annieweeksjokes in the green room for calming my nerves.

It takes a village as they say.

This felt really good. It felt like the time I passed the CPA exam.

And has cost almost as much.

I'm reflecting on things.

Being a first year in public accounting is the only thing I've ever done as hard as standup comedy.

My third year in standup and documentary filming and I'm just now feeling like I've got a little confidence. It only took my first busy season in public.

If you were one of my seniors or managers I'm sorry because I was still probably terrible. 🤣 Also probably a Certified Professional Asshole.

Been a minute so I'm checking in. I'm taking it a little slower right now but I'm still around.

Some recent photos paired with some words.

Hope you're doing well too.

Today I sat down with Will Ness to learn more about him.

Will is a great comedian.

His jokes are well-written, he works on the technical skills, and he's not as brooding as you as you may think.

We had a great conversation.

Go see @willnesscomedy who doesn't give a sh*t about followers make a bunch of strangers laugh at @shanghaitunnelbar on @caitchock 's showcase tomorrow night. Killer venue for comedy with vet talent and producer.

Thanks to @thedailyfeastpdx for the hospitality and tasty breakfast foods and sammiches.

Have a good weekend y'all.

NOTE: I am like Julia Child, these are unsolicited and unpaid recommendations. Unlike Julia, I don't have a trust fund.

A new reel from the time capsule, Tuesday September 3, 2024. It was the first time I did a walk behind comedians as they are about to go up.

Robert "Bo" Delegato - @robert.delegato was the first person I asked, obviously he said yes, he's also becoming a good comedian.

I remember being so tired but exhilarated by the footage we were getting.

I posted almost the entire lineup from that night in some very short jumps after the initial five or so, in order, 49 folks.

I like to think I'm in my fourth year of film and journalism school.

I have diabetes and ataxia and I still outwork most people.

What have you been doing with your time?

Kristin Rowan - @kristinlrowan is so funny and has this awkward je ne sais quoi, and she knows how to use it.

This was a hard day shooting after a long week at work but how can I complain when I have no kids. Kristin works hard and is just a great person. She makes me want to be a better person.

I hope you like this intro. It's built like a documentary opening credit, more or less. I copied @juddapatow 's opening of "The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling." It not plagiarism, it's respect and acknowledgement.

I'm looking forward to doing more of these with the footage and interviews.

Who should be next?

@_alittlegoesalongway

or

@ronniemackaroni

or

@not_the_real_jeffrey_e

???

Enquiring minds want to know in the comments.

This is a coming soon. I'm working on an introduction to Kristin Rowan - @kristinlrowan . Kristin makes me laugh really hard. She's so funny and she's going to attempt a headliner show next month. She also produces the Stretch showcase at Covert Cafe.

I have a lot of footage. I probably have ten documentaries. It has taken a while to "figure out" how to tell the stories. I had no azimuth to follow. I have found my compass and got my bearings.

It's kind of like doing an open mic. Trial and error and then study the tape. taken in Portland Oregon by @mpdxdocumentaryfilms
