In my quest to get my Ceramic Wood Fired Stanley Cup into the hands of Rod Brind’amour, I spent Sunday (Father’s day - do not worry, my children are in three other states) going to two events to hand off the cup to a Cane’s player or Brind’amour himself. The first event was an appearance of Seth Jarvis ( @sethjarvis_ ) at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Cary. Stood in line, in the sun (dedicated) from 11am to 1:15 to have the bad news that the next group (the one that I was in) will not make it into the venue. So I decided to drive to Sanford (~40 min on this beautiful day) to meet the entire team, with the cup @huggermuggerbrewing . To my surprise, I was able to park up front, go straight into the bar; there was no line, and NO CANES! The bartenders told me that the venue location was a hallucination (made up, fictitious) created by AI. I did not fret. I had a home brew ginger ale (excellent!), watched the 30 person line dancing, took some photos (not of the dancers), and purchased a bottle of Chocolate Factory Meltdown Stout for later. I enjoyed this spontaneous adventure and will continue the quest to get the cup to Rod. by @mpgilbert_pottery

Congratulations Carolina Hurricanes - 2026 Stanley Cup Champions! This NC stoneware Stanley Cup will be given to Rod Brindamour for his mantle, bookshelf, or desk; as soon as I figure out how to get it to him. NC has a long tradition of pottery production and is known internationally for the fine craft of “wood fired” pottery. (Eg. @benowenpottery @studiotouya @markhewittpottery @the_triangle_studio @jugtownpottery @davidstuempfle the pitcher in the photo was made by EarthStone pottery etc.) The pottery is “fired” (hot temperatures) for long periods of time at high temperature (~2,000F to ~2,300F) for 60+ hours. These high temperatures and time duration allow wood ash to settle on the pot and create unique, one-of-kind finishes. A metaphor for the kind of endurance the Carolina Hockey Team had to endure to claim the Stanley Cup. I believe that this wood fired stoneware Stanley Cup is the first and only one of its kind and I would be honored to have Rod receive it into his collection (free gift from me). 2007. Photo taken the year that the Anaheim Ducks won the Stanley Cup. I played hockey, my sons played hockey (pictured), and none of us touched the cup according to tradition. It should be noted that I did not tell them to not touch the cup; somehow in their “hockey instincts” they knew of this tradition. We have the team that can bring the cup to North Carolina in 2026! @canes by @mpgilbert_pottery

The Stanley Cup North Carolina style. North Carolina is known for its rich history in wood fired pottery; this is my contribution. It is possibly the first representation of the iconic hockey trophy in this format standing at 11.25”.
