This curved door dates back to the early 1900s🚪

Our client was concerned with the door continuing to split. After some research here are our findings.

-Typically, curved doors from around this time period were built a more traditional way; due to the lack of technology that we often take for granted today.

-Usually, multiple thin wood staves were laminated into a radius and held together with hide glue; Over time this glue fails and bleeds through, the joints open, and the laminate starts to fail and yellow.

How do we know that this is the most probable case here?

-Some tell tale signs are the long vertical cracks and the yellow hide-glue-like bleed through. Additionally, Those lines match the spacing of the old wood staves, and the smooth radius confirms it was laminated, not solid. All the signs point to a stave-core door separating at its original glue joints.

Based off of this educated guess, the SOP we created for the door is as follows:

-We removed all the loose material, primed the door, and applied fiberglass mesh bonded with liquid resin to lock the old seams together. After curing, we flattened the surface, skimmed it smooth, sanded, primed, sanded again, and applied two finish coats.

This fix will be very durable; and although it was accomplished by using modern systems we are used to, it doesn’t take away from the original craftsmanship. It only extends its life

Being 22 years in this line of work can, at times, be intimidating; feeling the need to “keep up” with those who have decades of experience in this industry.

That is why this project is one of our favorites. Not only because of the perfect paint job, but because it also symbolizes the dedication it has taken to be trusted to execute this type of work.

-Every detail in this kitchen was prepped with extreme care. Walls and trim got the whole 9 yards. Primer, sanding, filling, caulk. etc. Every single piece of architectural plaster was nail filled and caulked; which took over 1700 q tips, 1000 nail holes, and 5 days. The cabinets and hood vent were also caulked.

-Every surface not being painted was masked off and 3 Top coats were applied because of the intricacies in the plaster details. Spraying every single nook and cranny took much more paint than a typical wall, and the coats had to be extremely light in order to reduce drips.

When it comes to your home, there is no such thing as overkill.

Welcome to the MP studio. 🩵

After a lot of work behind the scenes, we’re excited to officially begin bringing our new studio space to life.

For some time, we’ve relied on temporary and alternative setups to produce samples and complete shop work efficiently for our clients, always with the same commitment to quality.

Having a dedicated studio will allow us to take that work to the next level, with greater efficiency, consistency, and control over the finishes we deliver.

Over the next few weeks, this space will continue to evolve as we build out the studio and establish a dedicated environment for refinishing, samples, specialty finishes, and other services we’re excited to introduce.

A lot has happened during Year 2 of MP. We’ve been fortunate enough to take on opportunities we never thought would come our way, and this studio is another step forward in where we’re headed.

This beautiful 100+ year old exterior was recently refinished in New Windsor, New York.

The team first pressure washed the entire house and let it sit for 24 hours before proceeding, to ensure the substrates were dry before the prep phase.

Everything was scraped and sanded; and then window glazing was applied meticulously to all the windows.

Oil primer and masonry primer were applied via brush and roller and left to dry.

Two top coats of regal soft gloss were put on to the windows and two coats of regal low lustre were put on the walls; matched to the vinyl on the houses recent extension.

Building the Foundation for an Excellent Finish in Rye, NY

Our client came to us following significant water damage caused by a burst pipe, leaving the walls throughout the affected areas in need of extensive restoration.

Once the plumbing issue was resolved and the affected areas were confirmed to be free of moisture concerns, we began the restoration process. We carefully scraped away all loose and compromised coatings, V-cut existing cracks and joints, and removed deteriorated or failing joint tape to establish a sound substrate for repair.

After the demolition and preparation phase was complete, we applied a high-performance sealer by roller to all exposed areas. The sealer was then allowed to cure overnight before proceeding with the repair system.

For the initial filling and reinforcement, we followed a consistent, methodical process. Deep voids and cavities were first filled with Durabond using a trowel, with excess material removed to establish a solid base. We then installed long runs of fiberglass mesh reinforcement across both the length and width of each affected wall area, ensuring the mesh was properly tensioned and embedded into the repair.

A uniform layer of Durabond was then applied over the fiberglass mesh, fully encapsulating the reinforcement and creating a strong, stable foundation for the subsequent finishing stages.

The goal wasn’t to make the damage look repaired aesthetically but rather build a proper foundation for a durable, high-quality finish

Completed project in Haverford, PA.

This beautiful room is drenched in @finepaintsofeurope

Each area underwent massive renovation. Multiple rounds of sanding, filling, skimming, priming, and painting were executed meticulously on both the ceiling and all of the millwork; Leaving us with a quality, professional result. The walls will be receiving a custom wallpaper.

This project took a little under 2.5 weeks from start to finish.

Prep is key.

When it comes to painting, everyone can agree prep is crucial. Job sites should be approached with that same mindset.

Having a job site that is prepped properly, and neatly helps us achieve a higher quality result for our clients. It remains open for movement and inspection, it is more organized, and it looks more appealing; should designers want to do a walkthrough.

In this case, the final round of sanding on all the millwork was completed before the last finish coat; and needed to be covered up so we could begin the priming phase on the ceiling. This prevented unnecessary overspray on that area and saved us another round of sanding.

We treat every home as if we were working in our own; striving for the best at every phase.

This gorgeous High gloss ceiling in Haverford, PA was completed in just under 2.5 weeks.

At MP, every project we do is approached with a methodical and meticulous mindset.

Hours of laborious sanding, skimming, filling, priming, and top coating were all executed on the ceiling; and simultaneously, the millwork and windows were getting the same treatment in an eco satin sheen.
