Every few steps, another familiar face! ⚓ Our team spent Thursday and Friday on the docks at FLIBS, catching up with industry friends and colleagues, and best of all, with alumni and new students right in the middle of it. Forty-three years of training mariners out of Fort Lauderdale, and it shows on these docks. Happy Navy Day! Since 1922, October 27 has been set aside to recognize the sailors who serve and have served in the U.S. Navy. The day’s founders advocated sea power on both sides, naval and merchant. In 1775, a Continental Congress committee recommended merchant ships as the foundation of the first American Navy. Navy veterans train with MPT for their USCG licenses today. MPT is a VA-approved training facility. #navyday #usnavy #navyveteran #merchantmarine #maritimecareers Photos: U.S. Navy by @mpt1915

Andrea started out as a scuba diver, working on dive boats in Hawaii. Today she’s a Master 100-ton captain, 14 courses in at MPT and working toward her 200 and 500. Along the way she made friends who still have her back. A classmate from her very first STCW course is the one who reminded her it was time to refresh. Thinking about joining the industry? Start with your STCW. The person sitting next to you in class may be a friend for years to come. On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress authorized two armed vessels. The U.S. Navy has marked its birthday on this date ever since. 251 years today. Happy birthday to every sailor on watch right now, and to those who’ve already come home. Many of them carry their years at sea into civilian careers in wheelhouses and engine rooms. Some of them train with us. MPT is a fully approved VA training facility, open to Post-9/11 GI Bill and VR&E students. It’s never too late to bring your skills to sea! People from all walks of life come through MPT’s doors. Wesley spent his career as a diesel mechanic working on vehicles and trucks. Now he’s training on the engineering side with his sights set on chief engineer. He found us through an ad online, did his research, and came to further his licenses. So far the class has him learning safety procedures, pumps and flows. Six passengers or a full deck of them?🛥️ That one question decides which captain’s license you go after. The 6-Pack puts you at the helm with up to six paying guests on board. The Master opens the door to inspected vessels carrying seven or more passengers. Got the sea time? Skip the 6-Pack and go straight for Master. At MPT, you train here and test here. Our captain’s license courses are USCG approved, so there’s no exam waiting for you at the Coast Guard. Today is World Maritime Day. ⚓ This year’s theme, “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence,” speaks to something we know well at MPT: the importance of training that prepares mariners for the work they do every day. Knowing the regulations, understanding the responsibility behind them and being prepared for what the job demands at sea are all part of that. We’re proud of the role MPT plays in preparing maritime professionals to carry that knowledge with them throughout their careers. #worldmaritimeday #maritimetraining #maritimeindustry #maritimeprofessionals #wearempt by @mpt1915
As Ceara prepares to step into a more engineering-focused role onboard, she came to MPT to build a stronger understanding of the systems and regulations that come with it. From MARPOL regulations and annexes to the engineering knowledge she can take back to the vessel, she’s getting prepared for what’s next in her career! ⚓ mptusa.com | 954-525-1014 | info@mptusa.com #wearempt #maritimetraining #maritimeindustry #yachtcrew #marineengineering by @mpt1915
There’s a route into this industry that doesn’t take four years or a degree. Deck officers, engineers, mates, the people running these ships started somewhere. Our students come from all kinds of work. Some have been on the water for years and others are starting from nothing. If you’ve been circling the idea, start with a conversation. We’ll tell you what the path looks like from where you’re standing. mptusa.com | 954-525-1014 | info@mptusa.com #wereampt #mptusa #merchantmarine #maritimecareers by @mpt1915
