In 2022, the life of Micah Pietila-Wiggs, a Chula Vista native and star athlete, was tragically cut short. Micah played a key role for the 2013 Chula Vista World Series team and was the son of Steve Wiggs, a board member of the @theAYAFoundation and active leader in the Arts-Rec™️ High School Skateboarding League. In partnership with @neweracap , we are proud to introduce the re-issued 2013 Chula Vista World Series on-field cap for the first time ever. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this cap will be donated to the Micah Wiggs Foundation. We’re excited to bring back the Live Like Micah Home Run Derby & 12/under Longball for our 5th year! 💙

⏰ 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
📍 Eastlake High School – Michael J. Martinez Field

Multiple age divisions from 10 & Under through 50+, with awards for the Champion & Runner-Up in every division! All age groups will hit off pitching machines/soft toss.

As we wrap up yet another incredible season of the Live Like Micah Foundation Scholarships, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made this year possible!

A very special thank you goes out to Mariana Hughes for her unwavering support and dedication, keeping us organized even amidst her busy schedule. We also want to recognize our generous 2026 LLM scholarship sponsors: The Toon Family, The Wallatree Family, and The Perez Family. Your contributions mean the world to us!

Here’s the story of Joe Waters — an LLM journey that began in 2022 and continues to inspire today.

In 2022, Joe Waters was spotted wearing a LIVE Like Micah shirt on the news, riding the golden road to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, led by life-long, family friend, Ward Lannom. Their team, Sweetwater Valley Little League’s 12U all-star squad, had defeated Chula Vista American Little League, 6–1, in the California District 42 championship game.

The following year, in 2023, Joe returned to the spotlight as the Live Like Micah Homerun Derby Champion. Competing at just 12 years old, he knocked 25 home runs, finishing first out of 25 competitors and earning the 321-foot Long Ball Award.

Now, in 2026, Ronne and I were honored to cross paths with Joe again as we presented the Micah Pietila-Wiggs awards at the Eastlake Baseball banquet. It was a powerful moment to see how far he had come — from a young player in a Micah LLM shirt to a celebrated champion and now a standout teammate honored by his team and coaches as the recipient of the JV Micah Pietila-Wiggs award.

Joe’s story is more than just wins and titles. It’s about being a good person, a good teammate, community, and treating people with kindness. We’re proud to stand with him as he keeps crossing new milestones in his life.

We all know, you can’t fake that smile! Genuine and authentic.

“Live Like Micah” Foundation scholarship award presentations are complete! Thank you to our 2026 scholarship sponsors and everyone who supports and believes in our foundation goals and purpose!

We are blessed to meet so many incredible students who are truly good human beings.

Over the 4 years, we have received over 100 nominations, our panels have had the pleasure of meeting 42 incredible high school seniors, and selecting 18 of those seniors to receive a scholarship award for their continued education.

Our family and friends are grateful for the healing that comes with our selection process, and we are thankful that our community is a big part of our growth.

Next up, our “Live Like Micah” Foundation banquet, where all of this year’s recipients and their families have an opportunity to meet each other, and meet our family and close friends who make the LLM Foundation possible.

The Live Like Micah Foundation has been busy honoring our 2026 scholarship recipients at Chula Vista HS-Makaela Manly, Hilltop HS-Jaeden Carraway, Otay Ranch HS-Tomi Salami, and Bonita Vista HS- Xylari Valdez.

Also, last night Ronne and I were honored to present the Micah Pietila-Wiggs award at the Eastlake Titans Baseball banquet. These ball players - Josh Alvarez, Joe Waters, and Reece Escuro - are the type of teammates everyone wants in their dugout. They bring a positive energy that is contagious, and they play for the name on the front of the jersey rather than the one on the back. Thank you Coach Orozco for creating the award in honor of our son.

One more scholarship to present tonight to the 2026 Eastlake High School “Live Like Micah” recipient, Melissa Wegenka.

This is what it’s all about.

Leah Letuli was a finalist for the Bonita Vista High School 2026 “Live like Micah” scholarship, although she was not selected, Leah with grace and kindness, presented the award to the 2026 “Live Like Micah” Bonita Vista recipient, Xylari Valdez.

Our LLM process is not a competition. It’s about identifying as many students as we can like Leah and Xylari. Young men and women who always show kindness, love, and compassion like our son Micah did.

This was the most moving presentation to a recipient yet. It’s kindness in action.

Congratulations Xylari for being selected as the 2026 Bonita Vista High School “Live Like Micah” scholarship recipient, and thank you Leah for showing us all how to have grace and honor, when others may have not.

The Micah Pietila-Wiggs LLM Foundation is thrilled to announce that 6 more incredible individuals have been chosen from Chula Vista High School and Eastlake High School as finalists for one of our 5 Live Like Micah Foundation $1500 scholarships for the 2025-2026 school year. These outstanding students have demonstrated dedication to being kind and compassionate in every setting.

We are so excited to see the impact that these individuals will continue to make in their communities and beyond. Congratulations to all of our finalists, and we look forward to supporting you in your future endeavors.
