Rest easy LB. James Whaley was one of the most generous human beings I’ve ever known. Even when he may have been dealing with something challenging who would always, genuinely ask, “But how are you doing?” And then he would listen and give you all he had to give on the matter. That is how he conducted his business. …with integrity and care. 🖤💛

Sadly, I will no longer get that call of him checking on me. Which was often interesting because I wanted to check on him. James and I would share stories of adversity or just a present challenge, only to then bust out laughing over something that happened during our pledging process. Homer Wilson Gerald James Darrin Stalling (Big Brothers in Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity Incorporated) are a few of the Alpha men we may thank for those experiences. There are many others Willam H Myers and Shawn L Carpenter stand out. They ha s already made it to Omega Chapter. 🖤💛🙏🏾

In hindsight, even the smallest experiences seem legendary. The ‘initiation’ process also known as pledging was special. Only those that know, know.

So, my LB, line brother James was #1, I was #2 . He always had my back and always had his. Because of that process. Pledging was only the start. The real bond was developed over the years when life felt heavy, when meals needed to be shared and couches needed to be available. This brother of mine sadly left us this week and it’s a hard one to process. There isn’t a single person that knew James that could ever say one bad word about him. I was fortunate enough for him to always get that call saying, “I’m just checking on you Frat.” Or, “Let’s me know if need anything LB.”

It still doesn’t seem real, yet he is now resting in paradise. 🕊️🙏🏾

Rest easy James C. Whaley… the step master! One of the great ones.

💛 First things first. Happy 2026.

💛 May you obtain all you need, may you achieve all you desire and may you eliminate all things that do not align with you purpose. You are always worth it and you are capable beyond your belief.

* Before the winter break I attended my School District’s Counselor Convening day of professional development.
* We attend workshops. We catch up with each other. We learn. We share best practices. You know the drill. All rooted in the intentions of being the best advocates for the populations we serve.
* We close out with a fun activity. In my network we played a game where we chose people we assumed fit the descriptions written on cards being drawn. We had to make judgments about one another, in good fun, without really knowing each other. In the photo I am holding what people assigned to me. I believe they got it right. Something clicked for me in that momement and I embraced it.

* As counselors, and some of us also therapists, we are aware that the hard work starts with at home. We have many hats to wear. The work requires fortitude while keeping our oath of maintaining confidentiality. In short, we carry a lot. We need to recharge and then to realign.

* That being said, I’m excited about the second half of this academic year. I am also grateful to continue serving clients within my private practice.

* However, I now have the responsibility and the opportunity to, yet again, level up. This undertaking is coming at me quickly. Thus, I am stepping away from social media and social contact to achieve my goal.
