Unplanned post from an incidental shoot…

(I should probably bring back my “Accidental Muse” series 😅)

I had complimented Mercy on her hairstyle in church, very African, “very roots”, I thought, but it was not part of the plan to photograph her later. But then church ended and I had an assignment to fulfil within the premises and there she still was, in the middle of an interaction, gracefully carrying the Mother Africa hair that wrapped her head in a way that set the scene for her strong facial features to shine.

I will ask if she would like to feature in my assignment.

I walked up to her and posed the question to which she kindly obliged. I would learn on the spot that it was her birthday, so I stayed a little longer, put the camera on HI+ shooting mode and shuttered away from multiple angles.

“Happy birthday! I’ll see if I can send you some” and I hurried away, forgetting almost instantly that I made the promise (as all photographers do when it's their friends in front of the lens💀)

Until a few minutes ago.

I was watching one of Alsu Leyman’s YouTubes on post-processing and was inspired to play with any unprocessed photo I found on my computer, and there — a low angle, full body shot of Mercy.

I took one glance at the entire frame and knew I wanted to move in on her face. That’s where the essence is.

And I wasn’t wrong.

Will she get her pictures? Stay tuned.

But she's definitely getting an invite for a test shoot.
