Morocco gave me plenty to learn from, share and remember. 🇲🇦

In Rabat, I joined colleagues to exchange clinical experience and present two talks: “Controversies in Dry Eye Disease” and “Dysbiosis in Ocular Surface Disease: What’s New?” These meetings always remind me how valuable it is to step outside our everyday practice, question our thinking and learn from each other.

Away from the conference, there was time to explore Morocco’s rich culture, enjoy its natural beauty and experience the warmth of its hospitality. There were dinners that turned into long conversations, reunions with old colleagues, new friendships and so much laughter.

Looking back, I’m grateful for both the learning and the time spent together. We often meet through our work, but over the years those connections become friendships that bring us back together. Morocco was a lovely reminder to make time for both.

What if the next breakthrough in ocular surface disease lies not only in how we treat symptoms, but in how we understand the eye’s microbial ecosystem?

Hello from Rabat 🇲🇦

It is a pleasure to join colleagues in Morocco for the 2èmes Journées d’Automne de l’Ophtalmologie Marocaine.

Today, I’m exploring two topics that continue to generate important questions in ophthalmology:

• Controversies in Dry Eye Disease
• Dysbiosis in Ocular Surface Disease: What’s New?

From treatment strategies and unresolved debates in dry eye care to the evolving role of the microbiome in ocular surface health, these are areas where discussion and collaboration are essential.

I look forward to exchanging perspectives, challenging assumptions, reconnecting with friends, and meeting new colleagues. What developments or controversies in dry eye and ocular surface disease are shaping your practice?

Many thanks to our Moroccan hosts for creating such a valuable opportunity to learn and connect.

After more then 30 years in ophthalmology, one thing I’ve learned is that great patient care in never about quantity. It’s about quality.

It’s about taking the time, it’s about listening and reassuring, and it’s about making every patient feel that they are in safe hands.

And when a patient takes the time to share an experience like this, there really is no greater reward.

This is why I love what I do ❤️

This September was a busy one but I couldn’t let ESCRS London pass without sharing a few moments.

Two talks on ocular pain and corneal healing, plenty of questions to explore, and the pleasure of catching up with old friends and meeting new colleagues.

A little late posting, but lovely to look back.

Our second CPD evening on modern dry eye guidelines took place on 24 September. Thank you to everyone who joined us.

As clinicians, we learn so much by discussing real cases together.
If you’d like to be part of the conversation, join us on Tuesday 6 October at Eye Clinic London for another evening of case discussions and CPD learning.

We hope to see you there.

Following the success of our first dry eye CPD evening this year back in July, we are delighted to invite optometrists and eye-care professionals to our next educational event at Eye Clinic London.

Understanding the Evolution & Clinical Impact of Modern Dry Eye Guidelines

📅 Thursday 24 September 2026
🕡 6:30–9:00 pm

Led by our optometrist, Louise Veenhuis, the evening will explore how modern dry-eye guidelines and emerging clinical evidence are changing the way we diagnose and manage ocular surface disease.

Mr Samer Hamada will contribute throughout the session, sharing practical clinical insights, discussing challenging cases and examining how guideline recommendations can be translated into everyday patient care.

The evening will include interactive case discussions, opportunities to exchange experiences with colleagues and time for questions.

Places are limited, so early registration is recommended.

Speaking today at The Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London.

I’m delighted to be joining the faculty of the One-Day Didactic Refractive Surgery Course, where I’ll be presenting:

“Premium Vision: IOL Selection for Refractive Lens Exchange”

I’ll be discussing how thoughtful patient selection, careful surgical planning and the right choice of premium intraocular lens can help us achieve excellent visual outcomes while meeting each patient’s individual lifestyle needs.

Apparently the clinic doesn’t close on weekends… it just moves home. 🐶👁️😂

Saturday afternoon, minding his own business, and Spencer suddenly finds himself having a full ophthalmic examination.

The downside of having an eye surgeon in the family: no red eye, funny blink or suspicious-looking tear goes unnoticed. 👀😂

At least this patient accepts payment in treats. 🦴❤️ by @mr.samer.hamada

Remember our previous post, when we showed you the Eye Clinic London team before we were all grown up? 👶

Well… we grew up. Mostly 😏 and this is us now.

We all came from different backgrounds, took different paths and have our own stories of how we got here. But today, we are one team.

And I couldn’t be prouder of mine.

Behind every patient we care for is a team of people bringing together their knowledge, experience and dedication. It’s this shared commitment that allows us to provide exceptional care and support our patients through some of the most important journeys of their lives.

I’m grateful every day for the people beside me who make all of this possible. Thank you, team — I simply couldn’t do what I do without you.

— Mr Samer Hamada

There is no greater compliment than the trust of a patient — especially when that trust is built through a complex surgical journey.

Very grateful for these words, and even more so for the outcome.

Cataracts don’t always start with blurry vision. 👁️

Sometimes the first signs are much more subtle.

Headlights suddenly feel brighter.
Reading isn’t quite as easy as it used to be.
Colours or contrast seem different.
Or perhaps something about your vision has changed — but you can’t quite put your finger on it.

The interesting part? Some of the earliest changes can happen while you still think you’re seeing perfectly well.

In this video with Top Doctors, I explain the early signs of cataract that are easy to overlook — and one in particular that often surprises patients.

How many would you recognise?

Watch to the end and find out. by @mr.samer.hamada
