Tikini🎷| @mr.tikini Music： http://mrtikini.tumblr.com/ https://www.mixcloud.com/MrTikini Born and raised in London and now based in Tokyo for over a decade, Tikini has become a prominent figure in the city‘s street culture and nightlife. Through his work as a DJ, artist, event promoter, and model, as well as his collaborations with some of Tokyo’s finest independent labels and streetwear brands, he has established himself as an influential presence in the scene. His career began with Spexsavers, the DJ duo he formed with Brassfoot (NCA / Apron Records), which made a strong impact on Tokyo‘s underground scene between 2008 and 2011. In 2009, he became involved in Outtanet, one of Japan’s first live-streaming internet radio platforms, alongside members including Zen-La-Rock, Afra, Donsta, and DJ Skyfish. Inspired by this experience, he later worked with UK Drum & Bass legend Stitch (Defected FM / Weekend Rush) to create JVB (Japan Visionary Broadcasting), a pirate-style live-streaming video program that featured many of Tokyo‘s top DJs every weekend. Following this, he delved deeper into the world of internet rap by launching the Osiris DCLXVI brand. Together with DJ Konida, Toby Feltwell (CE), 1-Drink, Koko Miyagi, and JR, he developed the monthly event WaterWorks at Koara. The party became another cultural platform where DJs explored everything from Raw House to darker Techno, with occasional drops of Jungle music. Today, his main focus is FUNKTION, a weekly Thursday cultural party held at OATH in Shibuya, alongside Taiki, Yudaini, Ren Yokoi, and Omar Santis. The night remains rooted in the spirit of Black music, with DJs guiding the dance floor from Boogie Funk through Chicago and Detroit House, Techno, and Acid before bringing it back to Hip Hop. His father was an avid record collector who introduced him to Jazz, Funk, Soul, Rock, and African music from an early age. As he grew older, pirate radio stations in early 1990s London exposed him to Jungle and UK Garage while both genres were still emerging and largely unknown outside the UK. These early influences continue to shape his musical perspective and DJ style today. by @mr.tikini
