I genuinely don’t think I will ever have the words for this experience 😭

From the private long tail boat picking us up from our hotel, to arriving at this beautiful restaurant @suvanaphuket surrounded by sea animals, to a 10 course meal.

And just when I thought the evening couldn’t get any more beautiful, I heard OUR SONG playing.

You can actually hear me in the video saying, “that’s our song!” 🥹
Then came the mermaids holding a banner celebrating our wedding anniversary 😭

It was the thoughtfulness. The attention to detail. The execution of it all.

I felt like a real life Disney princess. It was almost an out of body experience, just taking everything in.

Five years married, twelve years together, and this man is still finding new ways to make me feel like his girlfriend.

I don’t think I’ll ever forget this night. My very own fairytale in Phuket 🥹🫶🏾.

When I hear these conversations about not spending money pon no man, I keep quiet. 😂 Because MY man?

You trick pon me, me a go trick pon you! Spend the money, run the tab, RUN IT UP! 😂💅🏾

One thing I love about my husband and I is that we’re in a never ending competition to outdo one another when it comes to loving on each other, & quite frankly, it’s a competition I never want to end 😌.

If you’ve been following our Thailand trip, you already know that man has been balling out and cashing out on his girlfriend. It’s me. I’m the girlfriend 🤣

I’m not just his wife, I’m still his girlfriend! 😌 🥂

This was simply me saying, “Baby, sit back and let Big mama show you how it’s done.

When in Thailand… You get your wife’s initials tattooed 💁🏾‍♀️🤭.

What makes this so special to us is that we both always said we would never get tattoos. Yet somehow, our first, and most likely last, tattoos are each other’s initials 🤭

For us, it’s so much more than a tattoo.
It’s two young people who once spoke about the marriage they desired, without having a blueprint of what that looked like. Two people who intentionally worked to build the marriage they had envisioned.

Learning. Unlearning. Growing. Holding each other through every season. The good, the bad, the ugly and the unpredictable.

To now look at what we have forged together, the marriage, the covenant, the life we’ve built, sometimes I genuinely struggle to put into words what it means to us.

These initials carry a story that goes far beyond the ink.

A story of two young kids who decided they wanted to break the chain and create something different. Two people who continue to choose each other and put in the work every day.

I don’t think I can fully articulate everything these tattoos symbolise to us, if I’m being honest 🤷🏾‍♀️.

Here’s to the covenant we continue to honour, and to holding each other through every season life brings our way.

Who you marry matters… it is quite literally one of the biggest investments or liabilities you’ll ever have.

Marry well, my brothers & sisters 💚🖤

If you like, no hear word 😁.

Happy 5 year wedding anniversary to us 🫶🏾

Two kids who could only talk of the marriage we desired and intentionally worked hard together to make it a reality, because we had no blueprint.

We have now created that blueprint for our kids, and that means more to me than you’ll ever know.

Some days, I forget that we have created generational wealth in one of its purest forms. Something we often overlook.

In the wise words of our 8 year old daughter, “There is so much love at home.”

My dear husband, we did it. We created the blueprint for our children to pass down.

Here’s to 5 years and an abundance of loving left to do together.

Love always,
Mrs Awoyemi

I told my husband that I wanted to take content creation seriously, and apparently he took that personally too 😁.

Ever since, this man has shared everything I post to all his social media platforms. Instagram. WhatsApp. Everywhere.

The funny thing is, @mr_anomoly is not a social media person. If you follow him, you already know he mostly appears to wish me happy birthday, repost something for somebody he loves, and disappear again 😭.

But when it comes to me? His stories are basically an extension of mine.

It has actually reached the point where my friends, my family & his family members reply to his WhatsApp status thinking they are responding to my status updates 🫠.

I once asked him why he reposts everything, and he basically said, “I might not have loads of followers, but if even one or two more people see what you’re doing because I shared it, that helps you. You said this is something you want to do, so I’m going to support you.” That stayed with me.

He doesn’t have to fully understand the world of content creation to understand me. He knows it matters to me, so it matters enough to him to support it.

There is something very special about being loved by someone who doesn’t just see who you are, but also makes room for who you’re trying to become.

Sometimes support isn’t loud. Sometimes it’s just somebody quietly pressing “share” again and again because your dream/goals matters to them too 🥹.

I am someone who loves, love.

When I love people, I like to extend that love through care, thoughtfulness and simply showing up.

When I realised early on that my relationship with my mother in law might not become what I had imagined, it genuinely saddened me. When I love people, I like to extend that love through care, thoughtfulness and simply showing up.

Fast forward years later, and here we are.

My mother in law sent me a voice note and specifically asked for stew chicken and jollof rice this particular day, & there I was making sure she had food for a few days.

Then she said, “My child done it well.” My child. 🥹

She also said, “I can see that you tried.” And somehow, that meant much more than the food.

Because over time, I think she finally got to see me. Not a Jamaican. Not a stereotype. Not whatever assumptions may have existed before I was truly known. Me.

Respectful. Thoughtful. Considerate. Human.

I never wanted to spend my life over proving that I was worthy of being accepted. I knew the woman I was, so I continued being her.

It took time. A long time. 😂 & our relationship still isn’t perfect.

But we have something now that exists outside of Femi. She can call me and ask me to cook for her. I can show up simply because I care. We are learning each other as two women, not only as his mum and his wife.

I just kept being me, and somewhere along the journey, she finally got to meet me 🙏🏾🫶🏾

Marrying someone often means marrying into a family too, and for us, that came with culture shock, learning and a lot of adjustment.

I’m Jamaican. My husband is Nigerian. My relationship with my mother in law has not always been the easiest to navigate.

One thing that set the tone early, though, was Femi making it very clear how he expected me to be treated.

His sister even said it in her wedding speech: “Femi made it very clear it was going to be Chantelle, and he never backed down when it came to Chantelle.”

Because while he set the standard for how I was to be treated, I also made sure respect remained at the centre of how I handled his mum, even when things felt difficult.

Twelve years later, we’re still learning each other.

Our relationship is not perfect, and it’s not the closest, but it is growing beyond me simply being her son’s wife.

Slowly, with understanding, boundaries and respect, we’re building something of our own.

One thing about us… in this house, you’re going to read. 😂📚

But not just read for the sake of saying you finished the book. We’re going to talk about it. We’re going to make sure you understood it. We’re going to see how you can apply what you’ve learnt to real life.

And honestly, I understand why Zyna loves numbers and anything finance-related because her dad is an accountant. 😂

Each month, he gives both children a set amount of money, but we don’t tell them exactly how to divide it. They decide what goes into spending, what goes into savings and what goes into investing. They have their own little pots and jars, and slowly they’re learning what each one actually means.

So when she reads books about money and then turns around and explains to me what investing, saving and spending are, I love it because she’s not just repeating words. She’s beginning to understand the theory and put it into practice.

That’s the part that matters to me.

Read, yes. But comprehend too. Ask questions. Explain it back. Use what you’ve learnt.

And I absolutely love that reading has become something she genuinely enjoys. These are six of the books she read this summer, and before anybody asks… my baby been outside too! 😂

May we continue to hold umbrellas over each other when the rainy seasons come.

May we continue to dance in hurricanes by each other’s side.

May we continue to fall in love with each other’s souls, and not just the external beauty.

May we continue to live a life of purpose, in accordance with God’s will for us.

May we continue to extend kindness, grace and understanding towards each other.

Long may our marriage last through every season that life takes us through.

And may latitude never divide us, but somehow, as we continue to grow individually, may we always find our way back to the same coordinates.
