The smallest watch in my personal collection, and also the smallest Acvatic Movado ever made.

At just 21.5mm, Movado somehow managed to pack a surprising amount of watchmaking into very little real estate. A François Borgel waterproof case, antimagnetic and dust protection, screw back, and a beautiful two-tone gilt dial. Clearly, they weren’t cutting corners, even at the very smallest end of the collection.

It’s a good reminder that when a brand really puts its mind, resources, and attention into what it makes, even the tiniest watch can leave behind a legacy worth appreciating.

Thanks again, A, for this wonderful present 🙏🏻🎊 by @mr_fons_

The only “modern” watch in my permanent collection. I bought it new at the Cartier boutique on Fifth Avenue in 2020 to mark a personal milestone, one of those watches where the story will always matter more than the watch itself. It also happens to be a pretty good-looking watch ☺️ by @mr_fons_

Three of the best Movados I’ve been lucky enough to own over the years. Some are still with me; others I was simply fortunate enough to enjoy for a while. That’s the beauty of collecting, it’s a journey that never really ends.
There’s always another watch to discover, another story to uncover.

Keep hunting. by @mr_fons_

This is only the second example of this reference with a gilt dial that I’ve had the pleasure of owning, and I have to say, it’s one of those watches that really stays with you. There’s something about the gilt dial, the case proportions, and the way everything comes together that just feels right.
Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful chronographs I’ve had the pleasure of handling, and one I’ll certainly miss when it’s gone. by @mr_fons_

There’s a particular charm to collecting Movado: it rewards patience. Some watches have stayed, others have found new wrists, but perhaps that’s beside the point. The real pleasure has always been in the hunt, the unexpected discovery, the first time you hold one in your hands, and those quiet moments spent noticing the details. The watches may come and go; the memories of finding them tend to stay.

The sheer variety found in vintage Movado is mesmerizing: references, case shapes, dial configurations, and designs seemingly without end. Few brands, even far more coveted ones, managed this level of diversity. And perhaps that’s what keeps me coming back: there always seems to be another Movado waiting to be discovered.

Still very much in the honeymoon phase with this little one. The attention to detail is remarkable for what is, at heart, a simple time-only steel watch from the 1960s. From the proportions to the finishing, every detail feels deliberate, a level of execution that remains surprisingly difficult to find in modern watches, particularly at the entry level.

More than anything, it’s a reassuring reminder of why I fell in love with vintage watches in the first place. by @mr_fons_

Still one of my most cherished pieces. Nothing complicated, nothing particularly expensive, just great proportions, a clean dial, and everything exactly where it should be. Proof that some of the best watches to collect have very little to do with price, and everything to do with getting the details right in the first place. by @mr_fons_

The kind of design that never asks for attention, yet always earns it. by @mr_fons_

Universal Genève has a way of rewarding curiosity. The deeper you dive, the more remarkable its catalog becomes: unexpected designs, ingenious complications, and an unwavering commitment to quality. This piece is proof that the brand didn’t need complexity to impress. Just a refined two-hand Tank-inspired design, executed with beautifully polished chamfers, a crisp white lacquered dial, and a finely finished manual-wind movement. It’s the kind of understated excellence that reminds you why Universal Genève remains one of the most compelling, and still surprisingly undervalued names in vintage collecting, not for too long. by @mr_fons_
