Some rooms carry the weight of history the moment you walk in.

The Market Theatre turned 50 this year. Born in Newtown in June 1976; three days after the Soweto Uprising. This institution refused to let apartheid silence the South African story. It opened its doors to everyone when the country was trying to keep people apart. It built careers, forged connections, and gave voice to a nation still finding itself.
