En Cuba cualquier tipo de expresión en contra de la Revolución es tratado como un crimen y fuertemente penado por la ley. Se entiende que la Revolución está representada por el Estado y que es este el  que decide qué tipo de acción o pensar es en contra o a favor. La profunda crisis social y económica que afecta al ciudadano cubano lo mantiene pensando en cómo alimentar a su familia primero y después todo lo demás. Existen en Cuba grupos y personas que mantienen una posición política opuesta al régimen y la expresan públicamente, estas personas viven asediadas por los muchos mecanismos de represión que el Estado ha creado durante todos estos años . Muchos deciden marcharse y continuar la lucha en otros países. Cómo cubano me interesa mucho la sinceridad. came across this clip from 2019. Seven years ago, I was walking through Havana, speaking off the cuff about my thoughts on art and graffiti. Honestly, the way I think about these things hasn’t changed much. What stayed with me most was what I said near the end about the “real Cuba.” After three years living away from the island, I find myself asking the same questions: How does one live that Cuba? Where can it be found? Is there such a thing as a real Cuba? by @mr_myl

Two Ravens I really enjoy working with charcoal! This is my second mural using only this medium, and honestly, it’s been an incredible experience. This commission was one of those ideal jobs, with the perfect client/friend. Huge thanks to @allegedly_arian for inviting me to leave a permanent mark in your home, and for all the hospitality packed into just two days. Definitely a friendship that will last over time—just like the carbon footprint. 😄 The timeframe for this piece was only one day, and I couldn’t have pulled it off without the support of @high.dynamics and @prank.db5 who have had my back from day one since I arrived in Canada. Special shoutout to @alejandroreyes_arts for sharing the road trip from Toronto to Gatineau and back, and for giving us the chance to catch up after being out of touch for such a long time. It was a little difficult to get good photos because of the limited time and the space but I’m really glad I saved these videos of the process to share with you. by @mr_myl

Post 5000. This one is special. Not only the artist who I have admired and called friend for many years. Not because the photo shows Havana through the ages, old, new, modern, grand, vintage. But because the message. One the artist was returning to before this for years. Courage. Painted in the early months of the pandemic the message to the people of Havana had resonance. Two months later after July 11 it took on even greater meaning. And now, in times of spiralling difficulty, electricity only a couple of hours every second day (if lucky), no water, no AFFORDABLE food, no gas, no schools, deteriorating health care, mass emigration and above all no hope. The deterioration of moral is endemic. The message hits hard. To the people of Cuba and all those that love and respect them, COURAGE. Thanks for the honour of having this profile. Publicación n.° 5000. Esta es especial. No solo por el artista, a quien admiro y considero amigo desde hace muchos años. No porque la foto muestre La Habana a través de los tiempos: antigua, nueva, moderna, grandiosa, clásica. Sino por el mensaje. Un mensaje al que el artista venía retomando desde hacía años. Coraje. Pintado en los primeros meses de la pandemia, el mensaje al pueblo de La Habana tuvo gran resonancia. Dos meses después del 11 de julio, adquirió un significado aún mayor. Y ahora, en tiempos de creciente dificultad, con electricidad apenas un par de horas cada dos días (si hay suerte), sin agua, sin alimentos asequibles, sin gas, sin escuelas, con un sistema de salud en deterioro, emigración masiva y, sobre todo, sin esperanza. El deterioro de la moral es endémico. El mensaje impacta profundamente. Al pueblo de Cuba y a todos los que lo aman y respetan: CORAJE. Sin título (Corazón de fe) 2023 Esta pintura fue, a la vez, un ejercicio técnico y un ejercicio de fe. Me propuse realizarla en el transcurso de un fin de semana, partiendo de una imagen que había recreado previamente en la calle. La idea rondaba mi cabeza desde que conocí a una madre que me mostró un dibujo hecho por su hijo: dos manos cruzadas sosteniendo un rosario, una imagen muy reconocible dentro de la fe y la cultura popular. Tiempo después, en la calle, me crucé con un personaje que cargaba una Biblia y un rosario. Se nos acercó e inició su performance —algo bastante común, sobre todo porque yo iba acompañado de un amigo extranjero @visionscollage —. Le pedí permiso para fotografiarlo y le propuse la pose. De regreso a mi estudio en El Vedado, durante el fin de semana del Triduo Pascual, decidí pintar la imagen. Mitad ejercicio técnico, mitad ejercicio de fe, la obra nació de manera espontánea. Lo que más me llamó la atención fue la figura del crucifijo: desde mi percepción, veía una mujer desnuda. Decidí dejarlo así. ¿Una mujer en el crucifijo? Interesante. No soy religioso, pero me interesa profundamente la fe y el mito. La resurrección es un misterio que me atrae mucho, ya sea en forma de zombis o de santos. La fantasía de vencer a la muerte —o de regresar desde las tinieblas— es, para mí, una de las ideas más poderosas y representativas de la condición humana. Esta obra se encuentra actualmente exhibida en Casa Nala @theartmatchmaker durante la feria de arte contemporáneo en Ciudad de México.
