Watched Space:1999 in a cinema yesterday, to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Was reminded how….leisurely it could be. But would also reminded of how much I love Barbara Bain as Dr Helena Russell! She! Is! Mother!

Anyway, it also served as the perfect excuse to relisten to Bang-Bang-A-Boom, one of my all-time favouritest Doctor Who stories from Big Finish. Crying shame they weren’t doing interview extras at that point, coz I’d have loved to hear about the inspirations behind the story.

Here I was thinking homage covers were a modern occurrence, but... Is this issue of Crack Comics a homage to Robin's first appearance in Detective Comics? Published a few years apart.

Didn’t make it to the comic shop today, but this dropped through the letterbox.
Hibernia’s latest reprint of Doomlord from the 80s volume of the Eagle!

Doomlord was a shape changing alien, come to earth to conquer leaving a trail of death and destruction behind him.

Scared the shit out of me as a kid, even if the photo strip seemed a bit goofy.

Later versions would be fully illustrated, rather than produced on the fumetti (photo comic) style.

Stayed over in Chester last night, so it would be a shame not to visit the city’s very own comic shop: @secretidentitycomics

Stumbled upon this gorgeous Alan Davis cover, which I couldn’t resist, along with a bunch of bargain indies.

Inside the Marvel Age issue there’s a centrespread of the 1992 Marvel Bullpen, alongside a key of who’s who.

And if you’re ever in Chester, drop by Secret Identity. Great back issue selection, lots of second hand graphic novels (including some omnibuses) and very good prices, and a shelves full of a comprehensive selection of recent comics.

It’s taken over 30 years, but I’ve finally completed the Quasar series!

I loved Quasar, but my interest waned once Capullo left the book.

I opened this to find a small child, covered in frost, performing a VERY inappropriate cover of Sheena Easton’s 9to5!!!

One of this morning’s deliveries, courtesy of our friends at @charactervault

A couple of books that complete sets for me (Micronauts: the New Voyages and the Question Quarterly), and a couple of random Bronze Age beauties (World’s Finest & the Flash)
