This week our Opera Theatre students had the opportunity to work directly with the wonderful Michael Ching on his own opera, Alice Ryley. This opera was commissioned by the Savannah VOICE Festival in 2015. Our performances on February 7th & 8th will be the 5th time this show has ever been performed.

Working with a living composer transformed the rehearsal room. Questions were answered in real time. Choices were refined with insight from the source. The singers leaned in, took risks, and discovered how collaborative opera truly is when the composer is in the room.

This kind of experience is invaluable for emerging artists and a powerful reminder of why new opera matters.
