Warning: old man nostalgia post!

How can't I feel nostalgic watching Derby City all weekend!?... Insanely good racing combined with decades of memories racing there. This weekend marks 40 years since the barn burner 16 and over open main event finale of the NBL grands weekend. For my new schoolers... 16 and over open back then would be the equivalent of the current ABA futures class. I wish I had the full start list of this main event but over half of that main event are now Hall of Famers. 1986 was a rad year... it was my first year full year on Redline, I had just graduated high school a few months earlier and was turning pro the following year. This was definitely a big one to close out my amateur career. Side bonus of the weekend was being the first one to send the "$100 humps" after they announced the first pro to jump that double in a race was going to get $100 bill. Well... I wasn't a pro but I did have a moto before the next round of pros... I could have cared less about the hundred bucks since I wasn't eligible anyway, I just wanted to be the first one to do it ...and if you knew me back then... It totally tracks. Every trip I've made back to Louisville in the modern era since I've been racing again has been incredibly memorable, fun and nostalgic but man 1986 was ....well, worth posting about 40 years later 😀. Btw...That outside white line down the last straight STILL PAYS🏆 by @mrbillybmx

New helmet day! This is my 3rd helmet with @rudepaint .... And I was a little nervous to tell him hey this time I've promised to keep the factory look and just want a personalize it since the 2026 WERX helmets look killer right out of the box. I just didn't want to stifle his creativity.... But when you are a true artist you really can't be stifled and will always find a way to do your best work even when you've been given some parameters to work within. I appreciate you Zach! 90s started off with what was likely the peak season of my pro career.... I'd retire from full-time racing in 1995 and start a new chapter in product development at GT which kept me riding and even some part-time racing in AA pro through the end of the decade.... Then the bucket list of playing in a punk rock and roll band to party like it was 1999! by @mrbillybmx

Remember how dialed BMX HOF’er @mrbillybmx bikes always were?! Well…. he pulled his old trusty 1990 HARO race bike (and T-shirt) we had on display in the museum and rode the entire 14 mile #rideout on Sunday in Tulsa. We got rained on pretty hard on the last mile or two riding back to the USA BMX HQ, cleared’er up, wiped her down, and we put back up on display rack. How RAD is that! Stoked on 3 wins at Pottstown this weekend.....but I think getting that bump jump into 1 is my weekend highlight! It's definitely been a loooong time since I was one of a few AA's bringing it to the game bitd. Haven't tried that shit in years 🤣🤣 by @mrbillybmx
