The Whirlpool Galaxy (M51a or NGC 5194) is a grand-design spiral galaxy known for its striking, easily visible spiral arms . It's an interacting galaxy, meaning its structure is influenced by its gravitational interaction with a nearby companion galaxy , and it possesses a Seyfert 2 active galactic nucleus . by @mrbvack300

This is a montage of Jupiter and it's four Galilean moons. They are called the Galilean moons because they were discovered by Galileo Galilei in 1610 as he was observing Jupiter for a few nights.

Io, as seen in the bottom left, is the nearest to Jupiter. Io is famous for its many active volcanoes that spew out sulfur and other material, which is the reason why Io looks red and yellowish. Volcanoes on Io can spew material out so high that most of the material and gasses escaped the moon and orbited Jupiter. The result is a donut shaped ring of ion particles surrounding Jupiter.

Next is Europa, beside Jupiter, the most smoothest moon in our solar system. Europa is favorable for astronomers because it has held questions that are unanswered. Scientists believed that water exists beneath the crust of Europa, possibly life too. The cracks you see on Europa are probably caused by the upwelling currents of water beneath.

The two last Galilean moons are one of the largest moons in our solar system. Ganymede, seen below Europa, is the largest moon and the only moon with a magnetic field. There are old areas, dark places, and young areas, bright places. The old areas are dirted by debris many years ago, while the bright young areas are ice that remained from the ejection caused meteorite collisions. Not much is known about Callisto, but it is a dead world. As you can see below Ganymede, it is covered with meteorite craters with huge amounts of ice ejecta. Another fact about Callisto is that it has a huge basin and it's about the same size as Mercury, note that Ganymede is actually bigger than Mercury.

Several space probes gave us much more knowledge about these moons, like the Pioneers, Voyager, Galileo, and Juno. Some space telescopes as well. You can learn more about them in the official NASA page. by @mrbvack300
