When I started Moss Furniture Limited, I thought I was starting a furniture company.

Then I entered the industry and realised I was stepping into a much larger problem.

Nigeria has incredibly gifted young people who can build, repair, fabricate and create with their hands. Yet many skilled artisans operate without structure, systems or professional standards. Talent exists, but it is rarely organised into something that can scale.

Then there is the other side of the problem.

Young people who desperately want a better life, but do not want to spend years learning a skill, mastering a craft or starting from the bottom.

So we have two problems sitting opposite each other:

People with skills but little structure.
People who need skills but don't want the discipline required to acquire them.

I came into this industry and decided I didn't want to complain about either.

I want to build the bridge.

Moss is my attempt to create a system where young people can learn, work, develop character, master a craft and eventually build something of their own.

Where artisans can become professionals.

Where craftsmanship can become an industry.

And where a young Nigerian can look at working with his hands and see not punishment, but a future.

I started Moss to make furniture.
I stayed because I realised we were really building people.

If you want to see what we're building, our furniture is at moss.ng. taken in Capetown, Southafrica by @mredafe

A lot of young people today are not lazy. They’re just misdirected. Too much noise, too many options, too much pressure to make money now. So everything becomes urgent, and nothing becomes solid.

God is not in a rush like that.

He will slow you down and point you to something simple… your hands.

Learn something.

Not for show. Not to post. Something real. Something you can do well enough that people will pay you for it.

Because without skill, business is just desire.

And desire does not pay bills.

Skill will humble you. It will stretch you. It will take time. Though it will give you something most people don’t have… value.

And value is what money responds to.

This is why skill is still one of the most practical ways to get young people off the streets. Not motivation. Not roads. Not talk. Skill. Something you can wake up and use.

God gives direction. Skill gives you something to eat.

Then business comes in… not as a dream, though as structure. Something that makes what you do profitable, repeatable, and sustainable.

And this is where real youth empowerment starts. By creating systems that make skills accessible, support small businesses, and give young people a real chance to build. by @mredafe

“I don’t care about politics,” then don’t complain when they pass laws that hurt you. Silence gives permission.

Because while we wait for the government to wake up, we could already be building the future.
