Back in 2019 @MothStories invited me to tell my story. Their incredible producer Jenifer Hixson worked to prepare me for their mainstage at Harlem's Aaron Davis Hall on February 11, 2020. I brought up the idea of bringing The Moth to Puerto Rico and she loved it. We had a tentative date for December 2020. One month later the world shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fast forward, May 2023 and Jenifer writes me "The Moth in Puerto Rico... looks like it's finally happening!" We started talking again, they needed a venue so I connected them to Carlos R. Ruiz Cortés at @ICPPR which found them the Teatro Francisco Arriví in my family's hometown of Santurce in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They needed a storyteller from Puerto Rico, I introduced them to @MaricruzRiveraClemente. We rehearsed together in Puerto Rico, all told our stories on the mainstage last Saturday night, I sold out copies of La Borinqueña, and as the truly living embodiment of my superhero, Maricruz closed the night with her story about Piñones and her incredible work via @COPI.PR. After 26 years, 60,000 shows, The Moth came to Puerto Rico for the first time. We made history together. Gracias a todos por su amor, su apoyo, y por estar presente. by @mredgardonyc

Denise Oliver-Velez was a warrior, a revolutionary, a nurturer, an educator, and an elder that I respected and loved. The many times I met and interacted with her always left me inspired and moved. Her committment to social justice for more than half a century serves as a model that all of us should aspire to. She lived and breathed for social justice. Her work and contribution will always serve as an example of how to live your life in service to the upliftment of your people. ¡Que bonita bandera! I rePResent my heritage, culture, and family all day/every day. I'm blessed to have supporters who enjoy @LaBorinquenaComics for a decade now. Collectors, families, abuelas, students, libraries, museums, cultural centers, and more carry our graphic novels and comic books.
