Started the year off right @andorestaurant with a special Osechi Gozen Box. Such a wide range of textures and flavors. The love and care that goes into this preparation really shines through. I’m so grateful to have Ando in our city. I have an incredible meal every visit and this was no exception. The Nishki Tamago (Dual-Layered Steamed Egg), Kobumakai (Makerel Wrapped in Kelp), and the Amabei Koganeyaki (Grilled Sweet Shrimp) were the true standouts of an all-around wonderful experience. Had to document one final meal during my recent visit to Los Angeles. My last dinner of the trip was at the wonderful @eat_fwd in Manhattan Beach. What a meal. The Sea Urchin was a revelation. I’ve had sea urchin before, but nothing this fresh or this flavorful. Another standout was the Tuna Tartare—the flavor was second-to-none and the presentation, meant to mimic a classic steak tartare, was a nice touch. All of the food was top-notch, and the service was excellent. A fitting way to close out an epic visit to one of my favorite cities. taken in Fishing With Dynamite by @mries227

Did I find my new-favorite Tiki Bar? I think I did. @strongwateranaheim was amazing from start to finish. Atmosphere, delicious drinks, and super-friendly service… Strong Water has all of that in spades. Bonus points for an abundance of surf music. Likely the best Navy Grog I’ve ever had, and that Buzzin’ Jungle Bird… so much depth of flavor. Oh, and the food is quite good too. The perfect Tiki Bar? Perhaps. by @mries227

Crossed @tradersamsenchantedtikibar off the Tiki Bucket list! The drinks and atmosphere were great. It’s easy to see why Disneyland is the happiest place on earth! I also got a Dole Whip for good measure! taken in Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar by @mries227

Another day, another great dinner with @bamilof in Los Angeles. This time @nsotorestaurant . What a wonderful meal @baroolosangeles . The Sole was the highlight and so was the Pork Collar, accompanied by the most flavorful rice I’ve ever had. Every course showed off multiple layers of flavor. Baroo does a seasonal menu, so it’s certainly worth revisiting. taken in Baroo Los Angeles by @mries227

Lunch: Barbecue so good I waited in line. The Brisket was beyond fork-tender and so flavorful. The Poblano Queso Oaxaca Sausage is a must-order. @mooscraftbarbecue was most certainly worth the wait. taken in Moo's Craft Barbecue by @mries227

Did I just have one of the best meals of my life? Yes. Was that meal served in the middle of an arcade in Echo Park? Yes. @eatpoltergeist was wonderful from start to finish. Dorade and Lamb Neck were the standouts, but the Octopus & Burrata was just as good. And don’t pass up the Green Goddess Salad with crispy puffs, Coconut Lime Leaf Vinaigrette, Tarragon, and Pandan Flakes—as good a salad as I’ve had. Kudos to @estranothings and the rest of the team for a great start to my most-recent visit to Los Angeles. This one will be tough to top. Still basking in the glow of my first @jazzfest in New Orleans. Here are just a few of the many highlights:

Billy & The Kids at the absolutely beautiful Saenger Theatre @saengernola

Galactic @galacticfunknola with special guest Matisyahu @matisyahu at Tipitina’s @tipitinas

Andy Frasco and the U.N. at Republic - What a fun, high-energy show!

Oh, and the Fest? Yeah, that was wonderful too! Lizzo! Kingfish Ingram! Second Lines!

And there were oysters… oh yes. I’ll miss those garlicky, cheesy chargrilled oysters the most.
