ACTOR APPRECIATION POST: JOHN ALEJANDRO JEFFORDS

@mrjeffords is one of the most flexible & adaptable (& hilarious!) actors I know.

When he said he wanted to throw his name in for the role of Xavier, I was excited that he’d want to give his time and talent to this project. Simultaneously, I was nervous because mixing personal relationships with professional ones can sometimes be…hard. And plus he was going to be playing a character that is very close to who I am.

But of course, he’s a consummate pro. And the same attention to detail and wicked sense of humor that ripples through all of John’s work is very present in his portrayal of Xavier. The character of Xavier is a bit of an enigma. He wants to be left alone but also feels lonely β€” that push and pull. John expertly juggles these contrasting energies while also revealing the heart, and humor, underneath. Plus, the facility he has gained with all the camping equipment, all the gear, is nothing short of a magic trick.

Thank you, John! β€¨β€¨πŸŒ² Lean-To by Stephen Sheffer directed by @jesse.y.jou at @59e59 now til october 10 discount code: CAMPFRIEND featuring @larisoleynik @mrjeffords @jdrloves_u produced by @newlighttheaterproject & @pendragontheatre pic by @justinbelmondo #newplay #offbroadway #nyc #theatre taken in 59E59 Theaters by @mrjeffords

Thanks to Theatre Beyond Broadway (@theatrebeyondbroadway) for their thoughtful review of Lean-To. ✨ β€œWhat is the real world? Is it the day-to-day rat race we all take part in? Is it performative niceties and β€œlike farming” (in social media or otherwise)? Is it a neurotic type-A personality tinged with self-doubt desperate to find connection? Is it traveling outside of our comfort zone for the benefit of another all the while concealing your own discomfort? Or could this all be β€œjust surviving?” Could it instead be a primal scream and a stripping away of all pretenses under the starry open skies of a quiet mountain vista? This is the main question among many examined in Stephen Sheffer’s Lean-To.” 🌲 Lean-To by Stephen Sheffer directed by @jesse.y.jou at @59e59 now til october 10 discount code: CAMPFRIEND featuring @larisoleynik @mrjeffords @jdrloves_u produced by @newlighttheaterproject & @pendragontheatre #newplay #offbroadway #nyc #theatre taken in 59E59 Theaters by @mrjeffords
