PSA: I am an artist not a charity. I pay my bills with my art and spend thousands of dollars in training to do it better every year. There are many affordable ways to interact with me and my work from free and low cost workshops to my books and public readings shared online. I don't believe artists need to be starving to be considered "real" artists. There are many organizations and grants to help pay for artists to participate in your events. Exposure is not compensation.
We don't ask lawyers to work for free or doctors to work for free but some of us have no problem asking artists to work for free and that's incredibly disrespectful. Do better!
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Teaching My California by California Poet Laureate Lee Herrick and My Honest Poem by @rudyfrancisco to my students this week as we explore the personal and vulnerability in poetry.

What other contemporary poets/poems should I introduce to my classes this year? Drop them in the comments. (Bonus points if they have performances on YouTube) by @mrlovingwords

Big thank you to @thecheechcenter and @donatomartinez1 for having me out to teach my Poetry of Play workshop last night at Riverside Is Poetry Day. What an insightful panel with @byginaraeduran and @adam.etal . I appreciate the workshop participants for being open minded about how we can generate poetry. And the open mic was powerful as the newly minted authors from @iam.brandonallen 's @youthwriterscamp hit the stage and were recognized for their work. taken in Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum by @mrlovingwords

I had the opportunity to showcase my business with other graduates of the BiZ Up Creative Professional Program, and meet community members in the Greater Palm Spring area. I even sold some of my books. Big thanks to Caravanserai, SBDC, Visit Greater Palm Springs and The Children's Discover Museum of the Desert for this opportunity. taken in Children's Discovery Museum of the Desert by @mrlovingwords
