Twas’ a cold night in Tokyo finished with a kiss of Winter of breeze. The Underground by @peachesjapan.garage meet had just subsided and the next set of moves were on the table. I wanted a hot bowl of ramen but @993_btr & friends had a better idea; Umihotaru PA. A multi-level rest area propped up in the middle of Tokyo Bay via an artificial island, no less. To arrive it’s required that you ride down the Aqua-Line, a region connecting roadway that will take you toward Chiba. It’s important to remember when coming from Tokyo side, missing the entrance to the PA will result in about $40 worth of tolls just to turn around in Chiba. Pay attention like I didn’t. The next thing to remember is to carefully select which floor you want to land on, as you’ll need to make the choice on entry and these floors do not intersect for vehicle traffic. Naturally, we parked the E90 M3 on the wrong floor 🥴 & used the elevator. First thing I noticed was the utter cleanliness, especially with the place being made out of concrete. It was almost counter-intuitive to my American mind and the rest areas I frequent on long trips. Dumb clean, extremely well-maintained. Second to come to my notice was the feature film style vibe the place gave, mixed with all sorts of machines. Some from the TU meet & others wandering the night. The initial car on this post, a widebody kitted S204 C63 Estate built to run at the top of the speedo was the first to cross my peripheral. After which was Shirasaka-San’s R33 LM. A car I have seen since the start of online publications, had me star struck. Many other vehicles had me excited such as the Suntec S2000 & black 930 open eyed slant nose along with a bevy of cars not-pictured. Bear in mind, this was a light night & even then, a bunch of vehicles stopped through if not just for a vehicle check, to hang for an hour. It was so good & the nightcap to one of the best evenings during my time in Japan. taken in Umihotaru PA by @mrm5man

If it lacks variety, it lacks me.

Curious inquisition should be a part of every individual’s automotive journey. Treat yourself to the inner-knowings of how different A to B can truly feel. A mechanical world of wonder, with machines which harness souls. These, our transportation-privy mobile suits take us to where we want to be while providing the enjoyment that we want to feel. These machines come in many colors, shapes, power levels & achievable abilities. Slow, fast, big, small, old, new - doesn’t matter.

So, don’t be boring. Run that errand, grab that meal, take that trip &, enjoy the drive 🙂‍↕️ by @mrm5man

OEM+, 6-speed manual, 4-doors, BBS, enhanced power/agility & enough room for 4 is what these machines find in common. Also; the fact that both have traveled by road across country. The M5 to California, the M6, from. Both of these cars take from the old world of sports machinery where the visceral driving experience was a standard feature, all while offering modern counterparts (DCT, SMG). We owe the existence of these 3-pedal oversized M’s to the first-in-line customers whom refused any other way to hotrod to their offices. Both have high aspirations for speed, but one comes natural, the other comes forced 😏. Both are icons of characteristics that, sport sedans would harness while sharing attributes from their two door counterparts. Now today both their successors have been dulled by the pursuit of comfort speed, comfort power, comfort comfort. Both of these cars come from a time where the automotive world didn’t have the yearning for dopamine on immediate tap. Where God forbid your car doesn’t reach 60 in 2 seconds, it would equal 10 scrolls on TikTok. Both while being born in the 2000s, which aren’t exactly the good old times do however represent their respective times of automotive excellence. The M5 when having a turbo meant having an Audi or a Porsche. The M6 where having a turbo car meant you’re living through modernity. Nevertheless both are amalgamations of unparalleled usefulness, ability & fun. Representative of two very different eras, neither of which look out of place rocking a wheel designed in 1994. 🫡 taken in St. Johns County by @mrm5man

A weekend is never enough. Miami car culture has always been, but remains fascinating. The city’s known for its wealth of exotics but has a high association of tuner cars and, drivers alike. People drive their cars, in one of the few city’s across the nation where every make & model seemingly fits in. A Horizon map in the metal, in the flesh. taken in Miami, Florida by @mrm5man

Clipse & Pharrell dropped ‘Let God Sort em Out” last night & because of it, the early-mid 2000s era has been on my mind. My golden years, in many ways. A time before the many of us were encapsulated & or, captured by social media. Before the exercise of proving ourselves to strangers. Back when the soundtrack of my life was provided by the Neptunes ☀️. The M3 convertible in the first slide was mine, and while I owned it for a quarter of the time compared to the M5, it was a dream machine. Unlike today, there were no broccoli heads riding around M3’s. If you were a kid in one, chances are you rocked a popped collar and spiky hair, like yours truly 😌. My buddies and I were outside - outside. A road trip veteran many years before I could legally drink. A lot of time spent at 170 MPH, a lot of shisha smoked, a sneaker addiction & very few cares in the world. Life right now is an interesting place. To be honest, it isn’t easy & far from care free. From societal to personal, the playing field is different. This album reminded me of a feeling that I so often chase. So let’s toast, to us chasing that golden era. That feeling of warmth, completeness. I’ve noticed life to have many full circle moments, and I wait patiently for the next lap 🖖🏽

P.s. I’m probably a million photos deep of memories throughout the years. Coming time I share more good times before the social media era, via social media, of course. taken in The 2000s by @mrm5man

What a mixture of cars, & people. This tends to happen on “podcast weekends” & I’ve never complained. I went down to Miami for a couple of reasons beginning with Moda, a grail filled automotive show at the Biltmore Hotel grounds. Practically all the legendary exotic machinery one can handle in a day spread across a beautiful landscaped fairway. The other reason was to kick it with the RMC team + friends to host a great shit talking session of the Motor Culture Podcast. It was a surprise to me as I didn’t know the boss man at @kwiekclassics would be joining us, the man responsible for the C63 AMG Estate (S204) being a MANUAL (first image). That was a real treat as his work is making waves. In addition, squadron from the Tri-state such as @darrel_norman @grassroots_edition @amsautowerks & @eyad_jamal. And then joined by local homies for a great mixture. It was a heavy docket with meats from @shadowwagyu cooked over an open fire. It was a good vibe and while I didn’t get to experience all of the weekends festivities, the part in which I did get to play was an enjoyable one. I have been dealing with a whole lot in the last few months since returning to Tampa & it’s been due to this while my episodes have been delayed, but a fresh batch will soon be uploaded to enjoy when you’re on the move 🫡 taken in Miami, Florida by @mrm5man

Dakar Yellow II (337) / Black Merino Leather (X3SW) (F90-ZCP-PLCI) M5 Competition Sedan

A long time coming, a vehicle previously featured but this time owned by a buddy of mine, images shot by me. My boy was in search of an F90 to replace his supercharged E90 M3 family hauler when I suggested looking deeper to find the ‘perfect’ F90. Well as it turns out, sourcing rare machinery is his line of business & with that, he was able to locate a color of which there are only 5 in pre-lci config. With us, nothing stays stock and as you see, modifications have been added by way of a set of BBS LM-Rs wrapped in PS4S, KW HAS, OEM CF decklid, OEM CF splitters, RW CF lip, RW CF diffuser & IND color matched reflectors. For thrust increase; Project Gamma Intakes, MADD downpipes, and all wrapped up by a Bootmod S2 tune. There are many specs for many geographies but I think a Dakar Yellow F90 is perfect for all the hysteria that is Miami.

Owned & thoroughly enjoyed by @eddie_automotiv 🇺🇸

The parking area at the Tokyo Auto Salon has more character than some of the meets I frequent. After years of watching TAS footage and people like Toshi from Apex’i & @larry_chen_foto pointing out the magic that rests outside Makuhari Messe, I made sure that everyday we attended the show, a giant round was made. A side quest that might’ve made a couple of my [impatient] homies salty but I could give a fuck 🙂‍↔️. Have long dreamt about walking these rows baby. It’s a shame I can only fit 20 images because a lot is left out, but I hope the displayed images do a good job of expressing the vast spread of enthusiasts that show up to the [massive] event. Take that Lexus LX470 (UZJ100) for instance, it’s LHD and that’s because it’s a pre-Lexus Japan vehicle exported from the states. Meanwhile, the orange C8 is RHD with clear headlights 👌🏽. When’s the last time you seen an all original Integra & G35 sedan so clean? What about the legendary ex-drag S13 by C&Y Sports? That gorgeous, beefy HR34 sedan sitting, resting, blessing passerby’s. A USDM Raptor F150 🤯. The @adro.inc M2 had me fooled for a G87 LCI 🥸 which by the way is genius marketing. The sea of cool Prius’ was astounding as was the sheer amount of BBS LMs. It was a great feeling to finally see the G81, a @bmwindividuell no less. I could keep going but my time in this barber chair is up. Japan’s like no other land, more to come. taken in 幕張メッセ (Makuhari Messe) by @mrm5man

Some people have it, some don’t. A matter of patience, tolerance & if you’re someone like me, the freedom & the fun. Driving, is what I’m eluding to. We all have friends that think a 30 minute stint is too far. Now imagine being 1 of 3-4 drivers tasked to journey roughly 2,700 miles (4,345 km) in a period of 24 hours, in a car built for the extremes. From where I sit in Tampa, the county line for Los Angeles is 2,537 miles. Granted that this timing is based off of driving a non-stop journey at legal speeds, it would take us 36 hours on the dot. All with modern comforts, entertainment, etc. Meanwhile, the drivers on track, even during recovery or easy pace, are going harder than we would on a consistent A-B. It’s quite amazing to hear the different classes of cars go all day, when the crowds are thick to when they’re thin through twilight. It’s a consistency that doesn’t come to mind while it’s happening. And through it all, I enjoy walking the grounds & seeing the machinery brought in by racegoers. License plates from all over, sports cars, family vehicles and RVs. It’s always a vibe, spent with good people. Every year tells a different story. I remember my first time in contrast to my now familiarity & the love hasn’t faded. Tomorrow, I travel to the Sebring 12H to meet my fellow infielders. This is a post dedicated to the infielders. taken in Daytona International Speedway by @mrm5man

“Your life is your art. Be different” - THE SHOW UP Division.

The latter of which is the spiritual successor to Signal Auto; The Stage of Street. The Japanese & their subtitles ☝🏽. I think it can be argued that hobbyists harbor some of the highest levels of love, of which human beings are able. For said hobbyists this love is communicated through a bevy of “things” which can and is often mis-associated with materialism. I guess to keep it simple, a hobbyist is a materialist who is truly in love with the “thing” itself offers, contains, is able to provide. Comparing the two categories gets you nearly to the same space & isn’t worth it, for if you know, you know. And following these two Osaka tuned Nissan’s around this past weekend put me into a train of thought focused on appreciation. Having visited Japan in January retuned my ability to appreciate all the little things, the sort of mamba mentality as a generic approach. Do whatever it is you will, but make sure you do it the best. This to me is what astounds many of us about Japan. Then you find in all their orderly appeal for things, the love of U.S. culture that comes from the country. This is where I loop back to Signal Auto because without them (& Gran Turismo), tuners of the day wouldn’t have been aware of the Nissan Skyline & it’s multifaceted abilities. 25 years ago, setting up shop in Torrence, CA and bringing the signature Maziora painted R34 undoubtedly shifted perspectives on automotive tuning. Especially on a platform foreign to us. Like when Pokémon after the first 150 were introduced.

It’s with this I say, these two cars might be on a foreign continent, but I’m sure that Kousuke “Mad” Kida would agree that they are also home. As Signal helped to educate us on cars that eventually, we would have 1,000s of examples of for ourselves to fiddle with. On a personal notion, I have been long obsessed with the Signal Auto BCNR33 & had the pleasure of doing shoot & sales write-up during my stint in Miami. It was a car that you were only given glimpses of, overshadowed by its younger sibling. This is also why when I ran across @stgwgn’s Stagea one night, I tripped the fuck out. taken in Tampa, Florida by @mrm5man
