🗣️Let me tell y’all how my oldest daughter Jada graduating high school in May and leaving the nest in July has my emotions all over the place. 🥺 I know she’s very intelligent and responsible but moving 6 1/2 hours away is what has me in my feelings the most. She’s not only my firstborn, she’s also the family manager, hairstylist, chef(Who got SafeServ certified last year) run a lot of my errands for me, an amazing big sister, granddaughter, niece, and friend. Her and her miniature bully Azula may live in New Orleans, LA now but baby, they stay on FaceTime with us. 🥰 Thanks to everybody that contributed to her very first 2 Bedroom 2 Bath apartment by buying things off of her registry, sent her monetary donations, gave her words of encouragement, advice and/or who pulled up to help get her packed and unpacked. It’s all truly appreciated. Let me post about my Jada real quick. She got an award for Most Impact on her Tennis Team, Athlete of the Year on her JROTC Rifle Team, and most female impact to the entire athletic program at her high school this year! 💪🏽That’s just with sports.
She’s also an AB Honor Roll student for the entire school year, got an award for demonstrating Positive Energy and Effort within the committee in National Honor Society and Beta Club, and got the award that JROTC gives out to only one Cadet per year from the National Society of the Daughters of The American Revolution, which also comes with a Scholarship to help her through her first four years of college. 👸🏽🙌🏽🤑🏆🥇She’ll graduate high school in 14 more days and I’m ecstatic and already crying tears of joy! 👩🏽‍🎓🤸🏽‍♀️🎉🎈 by @mrs_lcr

🗣️There’s a BIG misconception that both parents can claim the same child as their qualifying child in the same tax year. 🙃❌
IRS rules say: Usually only ONE parent can claim the child for the major child based benefits.

✅ Custodial parent is the parent the child lived with the most nights.
⚠️ If the child spent equal nights with both parents the IRS has “tie breaker “rules..the higher AGI is the deciding factor for this.
⛔️ Court orders may talk about custody & swapping years, but the IRS still follows its own definition when taxes are filed.

If parents are unmarried / living apart & you swap years
➡️ The noncustodial parent needs Form 8332 (signed by the custodial parent) attached to the return to claim the child for Child Tax Credit (CTC) / Additional CTC / Credit for Other Dependents (when eligible).

Important: Form 8332 does NOT give the noncustodial parent:
❌ Head of Household
❌ Earned Income Credit (EITC)
❌ Child & Dependent Care Credit
