There’s something special about this time of the year.
I spend the whole year showing up to dance classes, practicing rigorously while balancing work, family, and everything in between, and I still do it simply because it brings me joy.

It’s not always easy choosing Sunday late evening dance classes when the world is slowing down to prepare for Monday, but I still go because that time belongs to me. Sometimes practice happens while the kids snack and watch from the sidelines, partly because I want them to see their mom making space for what she loves, and partly because that’s the only time no one is clinging onto me.

And then comes this one day, the annual recital, that makes every bit of effort worth it.

This year, I had the privilege of performing Tillana, one of the most rigorous and demanding pieces in Bharatanatyam. A beautiful choreography by my guru @monicaecooley . It challenged me in every possible way, and somewhere in the process, it transformed me too, physically, mentally, and artistically.

To my family and friends who showed up, cheered from the audience, rearranged packed schedules to be there, helped backstage with my kids so I could step onto stage peacefully, and supported me in every little way, thank you. Some even left without a single picture because simply being there mattered more.
