We walked around Dinas Head today. You’d think you were in the Med given the turquoise brilliance of the sea but we are in Pembrokeshire 😊. Lovely views out from the cliffs, a nice refreshing swim at Pwllgwaelod beach and some drawing on Cum-yr-Eglwys quay. Lovely day and then home to cosy @bancyreithin_hideaways - just 15 minutes up the quiet road. Yay!

The gardens, meadows and woodland here at @bancyreithin_hideaways are full of life - including stunning moths. We are volunteers for the @ukceh moth project.* We’ve done two moth trapping sessions on site, finding some 40 species of ‘night butterflies’, including these beauties. From left to right: Poplar Hawkmoth; Buff-tip; Brown China-mark; Magpie; Yellow Underwing and July Highflyer.

If you want a peaceful holiday in lovely nature, at the foot of the Preseli mountains and close to the coastal path, @bancyreithin_hideaways is the place to be!

*The moth traps are put out at night with a light to attract the moths. In the morning the moths are counted, ID’d and released. The counts are used for monitoring moths to help protect them and their habitats. There are some 2,500 moth species in the UK!

We are back at @bancyreithin_hideaways in Pembrokeshire. It is one of our most favourite places to stay & as always the grounds are full of wonderful flowers (of the wild and cultivated varieties). It is so lovely and so very quiet here - all you hear is the bees buzzily enjoying all that nectar.

Very honoured to appear on @bbccountryfile to champion the precious Chiltern chalk landscape for the Tracking the Impact project of @chilternsnl - and the NPMS plant surveying involved. A wonderful community of farmers and volunteers working for local nature. Great to also see so many other friends and colleagues featured who are all working together to protect and restore these rare places: @upperthamesbc, @chilternchalkstreams and @chilternrangers.

Lovely to spend a bit of time at the cute ETN cafe/bakery/saladbar in the heart of Enschede with @porters.sketches. Resisted the yummy cakes and had a delicious ‘bosbroodje’. The owner is utterly charming and her colleagues take good care of everyone.

Fun with gouache on a wintry Sunday afternoon @bancyreithin_hideaways. I saw a lovely card by Morwenna Stone and liked her style - I’ve copied it using a photo I took here in Wales. Then I did the cake which @porters.sketches bought to paint (honest, though I will eat it now! 😉). I love the bright colour & directness of gouache and the simplicity & sharp lines in Morwenna’s work. Can’t find her online!

Wondrous bookshop find in Newport: Brown’s books. Tiny, hidden, quirky and full of a great selection of books on all sorts of subjects and stories - vintage & fresh from the printing press. Beautifully designed, it has a comfy sofa, a charming & helpful owner, a soppy resident chocolate Labrador and the wonderful @pwnccafe underneath. We shall be back when we next stay @bancyreithin_hideaways! (We = me and @porters.sketches!)

What a super winter holiday @bancyreithin_hideaways… so exciting to wake up to snow! Go on wintry walks in the stunning grounds or nearby. Relax in the steamy sauna (perhaps with a dip in the swimming pond?). Cosy up with a book in the snug warmth of the cottage (or caravan). Sleep like a log in the utter dark and silence only broken by the full moon or the call of the odd owl…. what winter delights!
