Black belonging has been more than an area of my work. It has been a question I’ve had the privilege of exploring alongside students, educators, colleagues, and communities throughout my journey in education.

I’m honored to be presenting at the LACOE Equity & Wellbeing Conference this October.

My session, “Centering Black Belonging,” creates space to explore a problem of practice I continue to think deeply about: What does it actually take to create the conditions where Black students and staff experience belonging, not simply as an intention or initiative, but in the everyday practices, relationships, and systems that shape our schools?

I’m looking forward to thinking alongside educators and leaders doing this work in real time, bringing our experiences, questions, tensions, and possibilities into the room together.

Grateful for the many people and places that continue to shape my learning and practice, and for the opportunity to bring this conversation to LACOE on October 29.

Approximately 133 million girls around the world remain out of school, facing barriers such as extreme poverty, child marriage, gender-based violence, conflict, and geographical isolation.

Billions of them still as unreached populations, without meaningful access to the Gospel. These are not just numbers . They represent lives waiting for someone to respond.

For that reason, whenever I am entrusted with the opportunity to charge women, my message remains the same. And it is a charge I intend to keep.

Yesterday we got to celebrate my baby. She’s 10 y’all! 🥹❤️

We told 9 to BEAT IT and stepped into double digits in true MJ fashion…surrounded by her closest friends and our incredible family. And it was ICONIC, just like Gab is. ✨🪩

I’ve been so emotional about this birthday. 10 has had me reflecting on her life and just how incredibly blessed I am that God chose me to be her mom.

Gabby is electric. She’s the embodiment of joy. She is bold, brilliant, loving, creative, and COMPLETELY herself. And watching her grow is one of the greatest privileges of my life.

My baby is TEN, y’all! 😭❤️ Help us celebrate our girl as she officially enters her double-digit era!

And with that…the summer birthday-back to school frenzy is officially OVER in the Rush house. 😂🙌🏾 Robert and I can finally sit down somewhere.

We found a little piece of heaven in Saint Lucia. 🇱🇨✨

Another anniversary with two of our nearest and dearest, @drashleyrcross and @drmelvincrossjr.

Life is so much richer with friendships that are authentic, where the belly laughs make your knees weak, the conversations are safely honest, and what I love most….the silence is comfortable.

So grateful for God’s faithfulness, for another year of choosing each other, and for friends who make life’s best moments even better.

Here’s to deeper love, 20 years of friendship, and making memories we’ll talk about for years to come.

Because his daily practice IS what he preaches…

The 2nd Annual Gospel Brunch was a beautiful reminder that our faith is meant to be lived through action. Through @hopethemission, faith-based recovery, housing, and pathways to lasting transformation are being extended to individuals across the city experiencing homelessness.

Immensely proud of my husband who is at the helm of this initiative. He sits among the leaders of this great city’s gates and has committed his life to city and national transformation.

Today, I officially join a beautiful legacy of mothers committed to service, leadership, excellence, and pouring into Black children and families through Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Founded in 1938, this organization has carried a powerful legacy of culture, community, leadership, and love for generations, and I’m so honored to now be a part of it.

Truly grateful for my husband, our girls, and family near and far who loved, supported, encouraged, and cheered me on throughout this journey.

Special love to my cousin @sbthomas00 for paving the J&J way in our family and showing what was possible.
To my sister friend @tamarajoyscott, thank you for sharing your journey, sparking something deep in me, and inspiring my own “yes.”
And to my incredible sponsor and sister @aamualum99 … wow! Marrying my husband came with the unexpected bonus gift of family I didn’t know I needed, and you are truly that to me. Thank you for welcoming me with such warmth, grace, and genuine support every step of the way.
