For years my Great Grandaddy and I drove past JT walkin in Terrell Texas. As a kid I used to laugh not knowing the truth about him. I’d ask my Grandpa if he was crazy or if something was wrong with him.

I didn’t know Grandaddy actually knew him till one day my grandpa say, “Watch this”. We pull over on JT walking down the highway SHARP in full cowboy attire. Everythang on him but the horse.

Grandpa Ben: Aye JT, It’s mighty hot out here on this highway. Where you goin? You wanna ride? I’ll take you up there.

JT: Naw, I’m in a hurry.

They both share a laugh…😭😭😭 I’m sitting there confused.

Decades have passed and I realized today that I too am in a hurry. Sometimes what you carry is so much bigger than where you’re going. Sometimes the journey is the very thing that keeps you moving, and the weight of your purpose makes every mile worth the walk.

I used to think JT needed a ride. Now I feel like he was walking and talking with God.

And maybe that’s the lesson Grandaddy was trying to show me all along. Not everybody walking is lost, and not everybody in a hurry is trying to get somewhere.

Some of us are just carrying something the world hasn’t caught up to yet. 🤌🏾

Rest in Peace Mr. JT
