In honour of World Mental Health Day yesterday, I couldn’t let the occasion pass without sharing a few thoughts. 🤍

If you know me, you know that mental health awareness, kindness, and consideration for others are values I have always stood for, not just on one particular day, but all year round.

Behind closed doors, every single one of us has faced, is facing, or will one day face difficult times.

Because life is not a straight road. It brings unexpected turns, heartbreaks, disappointments, and challenges that test us in ways we never imagined.

Some battles are visible. Others are fought silently, behind smiles and the appearance that everything is perfectly fine.

That is why kindness, empathy, and understanding matter so much.

But I also believe mental health awareness goes both ways.

When life becomes challenging, our emotions can sometimes cloud our judgment. We may misunderstand good intentions, perceive support as criticism, or allow our insecurities to influence how we see others.

Being kind matters. But so does being open-minded.

We live in a world of billions of people. Not everyone will like us, understand us, or agree with us. And that is perfectly okay.

What matters is how we choose to respond.

We can allow comparison and insecurity to lead us towards judgment and criticism, or we can find the courage to learn, grow, and be inspired by those around us.

Someone else’s light does not diminish our own. Someone else’s success does not take away from our potential.

Not every difference of opinion is an attack. Not every piece of feedback is criticism. And not everyone who challenges us has bad intentions.

Of course, kindness never means accepting disrespect.

Mental health awareness is not only about how we treat others, but also about how we interpret their intentions and take responsibility for our own reactions.

Be mindful of what you give, but equally open-minded about what you receive.

Choose kindness. Choose understanding. Choose growth. And above all, choose humanity. 🤍
