YEAR ONE ✅

4 demonstration lessons, 100+ hours spent in class, 350 practicum hours, and many hours of prepping materials later I am done with my first year of training as a Certified Academic Language Therapist! ✨Year 4✨

This year is going to be full of exciting changes! I’ll be doing speech therapy most of the time but I will also be providing therapy to students who are struggling with reading using the curriculum Take Flight! I’m also taking a graduate student this semester 🤗 I’m not sure how I’ve been doing this long enough to be eligible to supervise someone, but it’s happening! I can’t wait to see what this year holds!

💙 Last Day of Year 3 💙

Today is my last day of school, and I have mixed feelings. It was a long year full of paperwork, meetings, behavior management, and tough conversations. However, it was also a year full of laughter, play, and building relationships. Every year I have my students decorate ribbons with their goal sound(s) and throughout the year we track their progress. My kids love getting to move their ribbon across the board and it creates so much motivation!

Today my third graders walked across the stage and will move on to a new school next year. They came by and gave me big hugs and promised to come visit. After they left I pulled down their ribbons and it made me so emotional to think about how hard they have worked and how far they have come.

Here’s to summer ☀️ and some much needed rest before year FOUR 😱

Tell me you’re an elementary SLP without telling me you’re an elementary SLP 🤪 my student was having trouble remembering his /s/ sound when working on S-blends and was also having trouble looking at my face when we were practicing, so I took the sticky note and stuck it to my face. He thought it was hilarious and I looked ridiculous but it got him to look at my face for cues and remember his sound, so it was worth it 😂 what’s the craziest thing you’ve done in a session?

🎃 🍁 This Week in Speech! 🍁 🎃

Bingo is always a huge hit with my students! I found these ADORABLE jack-o-lantern eggs at #Target for just $3 😱 the bingo game is from @thriftyspeechy on #teacherspayteachers. This resource can be used to target a variety of goals and is so fun and engaging. I love the pictures she chose because it sparks so many conversations about fall vocabulary and fall traditions! Happy First Day of School! Here’s your friendly reminder to breathe and have a little fun in the midst of all the screenings, evals, and scheduling!

Also, my number 1 tip for surviving any job is to find your circle of people ASAP. I’m thankful to have friends at my school who give me a safe space to vent and will dress up on the first day with me just for the heck of it 😂

This week in speech we are charting our progress and my students are decorating ribbons to add to my goal board! My goal for the year was to increase my students’ awareness of their goals and progress throughout the year. Sometimes I feel like my students don’t really know what they do in my class besides play games 🤣 anyone else??

It was so fun to watch my students get excited about their progress and make goals for the future!

(Note: this is not my entire caseload 😅 this is maybe 1/5 of them but I wish it was my entire caseload 🤪🥴) by @mrsjohnsonslp
