Long overdue! For anyone looking to work with me who does not habitually hire burlesque, here’s a short form guide of things to know. Rates are subject to change.

Halloween might be over but show season is still ramping up! I have a wide catalogue and even more that I want to do, so if you’re looking for entertainment for any format or theme of event, send a DM my way or email MrStrangeBurlesque@gmail.com.

✨ Mr. Strange (he/him) is a Winnipeg-based burlesque performer and teacher. ‘Emergence: Something from Nothing’ pairs a series of stunning self-portraits shot on a phone at home with an essay on burlesque as a grassroots art form and "how you can create something beautiful and resonant from almost nothing. You don't need an abundance of resources and training. You need resourcefulness, imagination, and intention..."

It just feels right to (almost) end the year in the same place I did last year, bringing things full circle. I hope I always get to, because I don’t even have to go to other events to know that @thewickedbazaar is the best Halloween event out there. I’m so grateful I got to participate and entertain all of you, you’re all the best!

I’m genuinely so pissed that the clothing options for men are so limited, especially as someone who performs in a more ethereal style. I mean could you imagine me dressed like a fireman? Of course not, I know who I am and it’s not that, let’s not kid ourselves.

I don’t actively seek to wear a bunch of women’s clothes but just think about it: a woman in lingerie and high heels is sexy. A man in briefs (however nice) and dress shoes looks absurd. And what am I supposed to wear fan dancing, a nice pair of slacks? Come on. There’s a reason I shot so many of my pictures nude.

I’m not saying the options are non-existent, I’m not stupid. But they’re so frustratingly limited I mostly gave up a long time ago. Besides, men look amazing in long skirts (especially without a shirt, you don’t even need a perfect body) and you can’t tell me otherwise. There’s something so beautifully ancient and tribal about it. And talk about comfort! I’m too contrarian to accept only what I was given. Women normalized wearing pants by having the balls to wear them in spite of pushback, so I guess the manliest thing I can do is have the balls to do the same for us, right?

Building good things takes more than talent. It takes communication, reliability, and follow-through.
Invest in the people who invest in you.

I’m so happy with this “occult monk” costume I’ve put together for @thewickedbazaar Haunted Lovers masquerade ball I just had to get some fan video of it in advance. And shuffle rewarded me with the most perfect song to fit the theme. If it’s anything like it was last year, this night will be to die for!

I can’t believe my willpower for resisting a new pair of fans has lasted this long. A cash call for a new roof will do that to you. But it sure won’t last forever. I got my wishlist lined up and I’m ANTSY.

What do you need to become a burlesque performer?

-Effort, with respect for what you’re doing and who you’re doing it for
-Creativity

Not a perfect body, not a huge budget, not a high level of dance skill. Those two things will make up for everything. When I had no space to rehearse, I played Jake Blues and stood at a microphone the whole time. When I had no money, I developed concepts around what I had access to so that the result was intentional, not inadequate. When I felt like shit about my body I remembered that nobody’s ever booed me off stage because I don’t look like a GQ model. I won’t speak for being a touring performer, I only dabble in that when I can. But locally? Remember this is literally art. The only rule is don’t be an asshole. Care about what you do. Get your creative drive turbo charged. And you can do this. by @mrstrangelive

We’re just over two weeks away from the @thewickedbazaar masquerade ball! If you were there last year, you’ll know this was definitely a night to remember. If you weren’t, don’t miss out again! Music, vendors, entertainment (including by yours truly), and an excuse to dress to the nines in an absolutely gorgeous environment. I can’t wait!
