Walking land (acreage) that’s undergone 50 years of subtropical rainforest regen. Special place & people who consistently tended, planted and have stewarded the land from cow paddocks to recognised biodiversity value.

You see the structure, species diversity & feel the manner in which the work was carried out. Trees 50 years old & nominal 40m high. Thanks to those who did & do, the stories that evolved & the legacy it gives… by @mrthomasgooch

Ok, here we go: starting Liff Studio.

After more than 20 years working across landscape architecture, gardens, public realm and environmental projects, I’ve started a new landscape studio based here in South East Queensland and the Northern Rivers.

Liff Studio is currently working across three areas:

Living — landscape architecture for homes and properties
Regen — helping landholders understand, plan and regenerate land
Works — hands-on gardening, planting and landscape projects

On the weekend I sat with a 1000 yr old tree.

Meaning I’ve been lucky enough to visit ancient beings (trees) in three locations the last two weeks. Not planned, just evolved. But I’m glad it did.

They definitely need protecting - particularly from fire. To remain available in our psyche at least. How to do this is the question. Some thoughts brewing, maybe it helps…all depends on funding & gov policy, but perhaps we have to try…

High quality of nature (intact remnant vegetation) is becoming a luxury item. How to ensure it remains intact, available & restored. Many ppl working away at this. Thanks to the wilderness society for 50 years of it.

They held a party for this reason recently, I was glad to attend. This and others I know, many I don’t know, are beavering away, tinkering & adjusting the system into some kind of balance or at least lesser of what it could be. Thanks to them.

Protect ancient trees in Tasmania from wildfire.

I was lucky to sit with a stand of ancient trees up to 1000 years old. They need protection along with a number of others in Western Tasmania.

Increasing lightning strikes throughout Western Tasmania mean ancient trees need policy for planned responsive protection & associated funding at times of wildfire threat.

The psyche of Tasmania & wider world only benefits from these older beings holding deep time for us all… by @mrthomasgooch
