Geweldig nieuws! Design Museum Den Bosch heeft het werk ‘A Craftsman’s Tale’ (2025) van de Bossche keramist Martijn Verzijl (@mrtnvrzl) aangekocht! 🏺⁠⁠Verzijl beschouwt zijn objecten als vaten van herinneringen. Thema's als jeugd, verlies en het verstrijken van de tijd staan centraal in zijn werk. Met een rijk visueel vocabulaire van symbolen en narratieve elementen verweeft hij persoonlijke verhalen met bredere culturele en filosofische ideeën. Poëtische teksten op de objecten maken ze tot echte verhaaldragers.⁠⁠Naast zijn kunstpraktijk is Martijn werkzaam in het museum. Currently reading ‘Kintsugi‘ by Tomàs Navarro. One of the book’s recurring themes is that growth starts by accepting ourselves as we are, including our fears, doubts and imperfections. Just as I repaired this vase with gold, suffering can leave visible marks that become symbols of strength rather than weakness. We are not meant to erase the cracks, but to honor them, for they are where resilience shines through. ✨🏺#ceramics #sculpture #pottery #kintsugi by @mrtnvrzl

Art Brussels Highlight: Martijn Verzijl 🇧🇪⁠⁠For Art Brussels 2026, Martijn Verzijl brings together ceramic works that place historical formats in dialogue with the present. A former Best of Graduates artist (2024), he uses the vase as a narrative surface. In Time Will Pass Anyway (2024) the vase’s shape refers to Roman antiquity, but instead of mythological figures, it presents fragments of contemporary life: pop culture, mass consumption and chemical formulas. High and low culture coexist without hierarchy, reflecting the complexity and contradictions of our time.⁠⁠In addition to his ceramic practice, Verzijl is a published author, with three books to his name.
