🤡 “NO ONE’S LAUGHING NOW…” 🩸

A church filled with clowns.

Over a hundred painted faces.

One murderer hiding in plain sight.

Every February, Britain’s clowning community gathers to honour the legendary Joseph Grimaldi. It’s a celebration of laughter, tradition, and remembrance… until one performer fails to leave the pews when the service ends.

He’s not asleep.

He’s dead.

When DCI Declan Walsh and his team uncover the victim’s true identity, the case takes an impossible turn. Beneath the clown makeup is a man no one recognises—a stranger with no place in the clowning world, carrying clues that reach far beyond a single murder. A forgotten slice of cake from a service held years before. A stolen artefact no one ever reported missing. Ancient legends, hidden histories, and a trail leading through one of Britain’s most secretive communities.

🎭 As Declan follows the clues through London’s stranger corners, every answer reveals another carefully guarded secret. Because behind every painted smile lies another disguise… and somewhere among the mourners sits someone who came to church expecting to get away with murder.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rosanna Marcos is forced to confront a ghost from her own past—a promise she believed she’d honoured long ago—and suddenly the investigation becomes personal in ways no one expected.

Dark, atmospheric, and packed with the meticulous detective work readers have come to love, Tears Of A Clown delivers another unforgettable Declan Walsh mystery where history, deception, and murder collide in spectacular fashion.

This has been a pretty tough week for me as a trekker, but even more so because the two people who have passed this week, Walter Koenig and Patrick Stewart, are both people I knew.

I've been lucky enough to bump into Patrick quite a few times over the years, especially during the Doctor Who/Star Trek crossover I did back in 2012, but one of my favourite moments was at Destination Star Trek in 2019, when Patrick was there to promote Picard.

I've not really talked about this that much, but he was quite nervous about going on stage, and I had been given to him as a "safe pair of hands" for the interview. In fact, his people had wanted to know what questions I was going to ask way in advance because they were scared of someone trying to do some kind of "gotcha" moment on him.

When we met behind the stage, Patrick seemed to actually relax, because he recognised me - we weren't on a first-name basis, but he later commented to me that once he saw who I was, he realised, "Oh, you're that guy I've met before. I can trust you."

Once he realised this, he opened up a little before we went on stage. He was concerned about me asking lots of detailed Star Trek questions; his memory was a little hazy on some of the things, and he didn't want to look foolish, but when he pointed this out I replied with "Star Trek? f*ck that. I've got an hour's worth of questions about you as Leodengrance in Excalibur."

He genuinely laughed at this, patted me on the shoulder, and I then pointed out that actually, my first question was going to be about how his entire acting career was based around a bottle of whisky. It's a story I'd known for years, but one he didn't really talk about.

When he realised we weren't going to be doing the lip service interview that he'd been worried about, we went on stage, and had an absolute blast of a time. It was probably one of the few interviews I've ever really enjoyed.

I've seen him on screen, on stage, and at conventions over 30 years. He always wore his heart on his sleeve, and he suffered fools badly.

I, for one, will raise a glass of "Earl Grey, hot" to him this week.

An inherited manor house, eccentric criminals, found family… and a puzzling murder to bring them all together.

Happy publication day to THE MORIARTY MURDERS by Jack Gatland! 🥳 When an investigative journalist inherits Moriarty’s criminal empire, becoming a detective comes with rather a lot of baggage…

I’ve been excited about this for quite a while, but now, in a matter of weeks, the first book in my Moriarty and Co. series for @simonstream.books will be released. It’s a solid Agatha Christie-style murder in a stately home, with a slightly Sherlockian twist, and a whole ton of chaos that comes with it.

Anyway, if you’re interested in having a look, here’s the blurb:

Welcome to Moriarty & Co: who would have thought that solving crimes is more fun than committing them?

Investigative journalist Abigail Wren has spent her career chasing cases no one else cares about. But everything changes when Abbie learns she's the last living heir to the Moriarty criminal empire (yes, that Moriarty). Now, not only has she inherited a crumbling country house, she’s also acquired a cellar full of ageing operatives who've spent their lives on the wrong side of the law. She wants none of it.

Her new 'employees' aren’t too thrilled either. They want a Moriarty in charge – not someone who's only ever solved crimes, rather than committed them. But when Maurice Finch, one of the old guard, is found dead in circumstances nobody believes were accidental, the team wants revenge.

Abbie sees an opportunity: she decides they’re switching sides and going straight to find Finch’s killer. But pulling at the threads of his death turns up a second body, and a name that keeps surfacing where it shouldn't. Because someone thinks the Moriarty inheritance should have been theirs, and he's only just getting started...

With time running out to catch the killer, can they solve the case before another body turns up? Or is the world’s most unconventional detective agency also going to be its most short-lived?

One thing I’ve always been passionate about is tech.

As someone who started his career at the age of 16 as a games reviewer, I’ve always looked to what the next generation brings. And at the moment, I’m finding these are possibly one of the best purchases I’ve made in a long time. The @evenrealities G2s, and the control ring that comes with them, have been my go-to EDC for the last month, and I’m finding they do everything I need them to do.

They don’t have a camera or speakers; these are a more simplistic style of glasses that give you a small HUD in front of your eyes. Monochrome green, and filled with data.

But the best bit about these glasses is what’s called the Even Hub, like an app store, so you can create your own applications for the glasses. I was able to create two beta software items - the first is my second brain server, which is currently running full-time. This holds everything I need for my writing career, and I can ask it things while walking the dog.

The second was an in-depth dictation app. In fact, it’s what I’m using right now to dictate this while I’m walking. I can dictate entire chapters of my book and it’ll save them as a file ready for me. I can write journal entries and it’ll save them into my journal file. I can even think up ideas and it’ll place them into an ideas folder, which is checked every day so that nothing I think of is forgotten. I can pause, continue, stitch together multiple versions. It’s replaced any kind of recording device.

And the best bit of all is I can do this at the tap of a button on the ring. Ask a question, get an answer. If someone contacts me or sends me an email, I can deal with it on the move. Half the time I can do it without speaking, so you wouldn’t even know I was working, which for me is exactly what I want.

Painless in every sense of the word.

So if you see me rocking these glasses, feel free to ask to have a go. I’m more than happy to show you. :) by @mrtonylee

So, as I write this, I’m walking my dog in a beautiful country park in Kent. The sun is out, there’s the promise of a nice day, and I feel at peace with the world — which is the complete opposite of how I felt exactly six years ago today.

You see, on the 22nd of September 2020, I was in a completely different mindset to how I am now.

We were several months into lockdown, COVID was still rampaging across the globe, and I had spent the previous three months fulfilling every single paid job that I had, gathering every penny I possibly could. That, along with the bounce-back loans the government were providing to self-employed people, gave me just enough money to survive for a further six months.

I'd worked the maths out. I knew the dates, and if I couldn’t find money by the end of April to pay my end-of-April mortgage, I was pretty much screwed. All I could do was hope that the world would reopen and that work would come in. But six months is a very small amount of time, and I was very much aware that the chances were this wouldn’t happen, and I would end up having to find a different way to make my money.

I wasn’t the only writer in this boat. I knew several having the same problems, and we regularly spoke to each other. And on this day, the 22nd of September, I met with a friend of mine, Andy Briggs, a fellow screenwriter and novelist who was also in the same situation.

The government had just reopened various places, so we could meet in an open space for a drink. Andy and I had a coffee and discussed what we could do. It was possibly the most important meeting I’ve ever had, no matter how candid and personal it was. Because during this conversation, Andy discussed another conversation he had had, this time with a fellow writer, Barry Hutchison, who for the previous couple of years — unbeknownst to me — had been writing crime novels and self-publishing them under the name J.D. Kirk. He explained that this seemed to be an option to make money. You uploaded books and Amazon paid you. The only problem I had with this was that I didn’t write novels. John Wick said it best - "People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back."

Ten years ago I started writing a book that became THE LIONHEART CURSE. A Dan Brown style adventure with a conman forger lead.

In 2020 it was killed by COVID.

In 2021 it was released as a Jack Gatland Book, and for five years I've had people asking when a sequel was coming.

Well... now I can answer that. November 23rd, 2026. Six years after my first ever Jack Gatland book.

"The critically acclaimed, internationally bestselling Damian Lucas series continues...

The king takes the sword, the king breaks the sword.

Damian Lucas has spent a few quiet years staying out of trouble. Trouble has other ideas.

A frightened priest hands him a medieval manuscript and then vanishes, leaving Damian with two pages that a rogue offshoot of the Church will kill to recover. Because Thomas Malory, the imprisoned knight who gave England the legend of King Arthur, buried a real secret inside the myth. The sword in the stone was never a fairy story. It was a cover for something fifty-four Knights Templar once burned to protect.

An excommunicated order has the rest of Malory's manuscript. Damian has the only two pages that matter – which makes him the last thing standing between them and Rome. They mean to lay their secret at the Pope's feet within the week. Damian has until then to work out what it really is.

Framed for a murder he didn't commit, he'll have help he doesn't want – from a woman who walked out on him, and another who already betrayed him.

Every child in England knows the sword in the stone is a story. Damian Lucas is about to prove them wrong.

The second novel in a series of adventure mystery thrillers by #1 New York Times bestselling writer Tony Lee writing as Jack Gatland, The Excalibur Quest is perfect for fans of Dan Brown's Robert Langdon series, Scott Mariani’s Ben Hope series and Steve Berry's Cotton Malone series of books, as well as films like National Treasure and Uncharted."
