Started a list of activities that students/people can do while they work towards becoming an astronaut. The experiences should be meaningful and relevant to astronomy, and maybe the student can get a better idea of what they’d like to contribute in the field after each experience. Episode 2/10.

in 2017, nasa only hired 14 astronauts out of 18 thousand applications. how do you even pick 14 people out of that many?

To learn more, I started working on a website that lists qualities of each nasa astronaut, such as education, work experience, military experience, etc.

the idea is to make it easier to see what the qualities of the winners are. The second idea is to present the information in an easy way, so that students or people that want to become astronauts can use the site as a reference while they design and move through their careers.

im building this with a small team of friends, so I am going to make videos to try and keep them motivated. If they see me working, then they might feel encouraged to keep working too.

Additionally, thank you to everyone who reached out regarding what happened with Madagascar. I was touched by your gentleness and compassion. I have since left the country and am currently “safe”, which is worth being grateful for, but I’m unhappy with this outcome. You are correct to say that a nation deciding to organize a revolution is out of my control, rather I am sometimes furious with myself for not having pursued this much earlier and being more intentional with my efforts. It is my fault for delaying the actions that were in my control and now I must surrender to circumstances beyond my influence.

On the bright side, I am glad I pushed through the fear and nervousness I faced in the weeks leading to my flight. More importantly, what I learned during my limited experience in Madagascar has further legitimized the NGO and its potential in my mind.

I don’t know when I’ll be able to return to the island. I don’t know if I will choose to return even if the opportunity arises again. We must continue to explore other curiosities and ideas while we wait.
