One of those moments that makes #CBCALC Week special.

After talking shop with my friend and @naturbanleague President @marcmorial, he welcomed baby Zuri to the world and apparently started recruiting her for the Urban League movement early. 😂❤️

As a board chair of the @urbanleaguewilmington affiliate, moments like this remind me that the work we do today is ultimately about the generation coming behind us.

Huge thanks to my lifelong @jackandjillinc family Kalila Hines Winters, MA and @hollandknightlaw for the invite and for convening this wonderful event.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” — Ephesians 2:10

Thank you for all the birthday wishes and blessings. Grateful for the journey, blessed to celebrate and cheer on my village. Grounded in purpose and trusting God with what’s ahead. Every season has been preparation and the work continues. 🙏🏾✨

Love ya’ll,

G Day 🎈

I’m deeply humbled and grateful to the @newarkde_naacp for honoring me this past Sunday with the 2025 President’s Award during its 75th Freedom Fund Banquet.

This honor was even more meaningful knowing that my mother, @hornetsown , received this same award a few years ago. To follow in her footsteps is a blessing beyond words.

I’m also grateful for my family, friends, business partners, and my entire village for showing up with love. S/o to my sister @ebonijanee , who flew in from Charlotte, NC to join the celebration.

As I shared that day, even in uncertain times, we serve a certain and sufficient God. I’ve had the privilege of being a card-carrying @naacp and @delawarenaacp member since the age of three, and it continues to remind me that faith still works, when we do.

Congratulations again to all of this year’s honorees and to the NAACP Newark Delaware Branch on 75 years of faith, service, and justice. May we continue the work together. 💙💛 taken in Deer Field County Club by @mrwilliams86

Dear D’Angelo,

For those who truly know me, they knew you were my favorite artist of all time. The journey we shared, though we never met, always felt connected. To think it ended without getting to shake your hand or tell you how much you meant to me feels incomplete.

I planned to finally see you live at @rootspicnic, closing out the festival in Philly with the legendary @theroots , @blackthought and @questlove behind you. You canceled for personal reasons, and now… I understand why.

When @saadiqmoves said last year that “D’s in a good space,” I held on to that. I pray the music you created then still finds its way to the world.

From Brown Sugar at the barbershop to Voodoo soundtracking my first love, to twisting my hair trying to be cool like you, your music has been the soundtrack to my life. Even during your silence, I defended your name at every cookout and debate about the greatest R&B artist alive.

If I’m being honest, I was grateful because you created a rare space for young men like me to be vulnerable, especially about love.

A choir boy from Richmond, the son of a preacher, redefining a genre. Brown Sugar birthed the neo-soul movement, Voodoo became scripture, and Black Messiah reminded us that soul music could still spark revolutions. @rollingstone called it “a warm, expansive masterpiece.” @nytimes called it “a reflection of America’s unrest.”

Your peers called you “a one-of-one,” “genius,” even “R&B Jesus.” You didn’t just make music, you moved the culture. Your conversation with Bobby Seale and songs like “The Charade,” “Africa,” and “Till It’s Done (Tutu)” reminded us that art can heal, awaken, and liberate.

I just hope when you left this world, you knew how deeply you were loved and that you loved yourself the same way God and so many of us loved you.

Maya Angelou once said, “A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies.” That’s who you were, D. A great soul whose light and sound will echo for generations.

Though I wish I could’ve seen you play or hear you One Mo’Gin, like my favorite song Greatdayndamornin’, I know I’ll see you in Another Life.

Rest well, King. 🕊️

2025 has taken off like a rocket 🚀

Last Thursday, the @urbanleaguewilmington held its 2024 Annual Meeting, celebrating a year where our programs impacted over 10,000 lives. Thanks to the incredible leadership of @mwul_prez, her talented team, outgoing Chairman Joel Coppadge, and a dedicated board, the future of our movement is brighter than ever. I’m honored to step in as the new Chairman of the Board and grateful for the trust placed in me.

Earlier this month, for the second year in a row, I had the privilege of serving as Master of Ceremony for Delaware Kappa’s Joint Founders Day Dinner, honoring brothers with 50+ years of service and hearing a powerful leadership message from Brigadier General James A. Benson.

Up next: On Wednesday, January 22 @ 6 PM, I’ll be the guest speaker for @salesianumschool’s Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Dinner. This event is open to all—join us. Register here: sals1903.org/mlk

Is it me, or do these trips around the ☀️ seem to come around much faster these days? 🤔😄

Nevertheless, I’m blessed to see another year. Thankful for the beautiful experiences, growth, and journey throughout. A special thank you to my brotha @phuturemillionaire for curating one of the most consequential travel experiences of my life. @peculiartravel is family, and South Africa 🇿🇦 has stolen a piece of my heart 🧡.

Thank you, Frankie Beverly, for being the soundtrack to our lives. Thank you, Nikki Giovanni, for teaching us to love ourselves. Thank you to all the ancestors whose enduring legacy will guide us moving forward.

And to Stephen: Know that you’re enough. Know that God made you with a grand purpose in mind. Above all things, know that God Loves You, and I Love You, Much Too Much… ❤️
