One of the first things I notice when I’m helping a woman in her closet is this…She reaches for the same handful of clothes over and over again. Not because she doesn’t have anything else.Because those are the clothes that work. They fit. They’re comfortable. They fit the life she’s living now.The rest of the closet often tells the story of where she’s been. The career she retired from. The weight she hopes to get back to.The special event that’s already come and gone. There’s nothing wrong with those clothes. But they may not be serving the woman you are today. What if, instead of buying more, you started paying attention to the clothes you already love wearing? They’ve been giving you clues all along. Now I want to know…What’s the one piece in your closet you wear on repeat?Mine is a pair of pants that has absolutely earned its place in my top picks by @ms.b.styling

One shirt. One simple knot.I love a crisp men’s button-down because it’s so versatile. Here’s one of my favorite ways to wear it. The knot stayed in place all day, so I wasn’t constantly stopping to fix or retie it.There are lots of ways to style a button-down—this is simply one easy way that works for me.Now I’m curious…If you’ve never shopped the men’s department, what’s the biggest reason?• The fit?• The sizing?• Never thought about it?• It just feels…weird?I’d love to know. by @ms.b.styling

Confession time…I’ve been shopping the men’s section of thrift stores for years. Not because I was trying to make a fashion statement.I was simply tired of women’s button-down shirts that were too short in the sleeves. As a tall woman, finding a shirt that fit the way I wanted wasn’t always easy. Then one day I noticed something. Men’s shirts gave me the sleeve length I wanted, the sizing was more consistent, and the quality was often better than what I was finding elsewhere. Now it’s one of the first places I look when I’m thrifting. And before you ask… yes, I’ve found some incredible pieces there over the years. So tell me:Have you ever shopped a section of a store that wasn’t technically “meant” for you?I’d love to hear your most unexpected find. by @ms.b.styling

Chicagoland is heading straight into a heat wave. 🥵We’re looking at temperatures in the 90s with a heat index that could hit 103°-107°F. When it’s this hot, I don’t reach for shorts. I prefer something loose and breezy that doesn’t cling and allows a little air circulation. 😉A maxi skirt is one of my favorite options when the temperatures start soaring. What about you? When it’s H🔥T, what are you reaching for?☀️ Shorts?☀️ Dresses?☀️ Skirts?☀️ Linen pants?☀️ Something else? by @ms.b.styling

Seriously.Every time I wore white after Labor Day, I half expected a photographer to jump out from behind a bush and document my fashion crime. That memory inspired this week’s blog post about style rules, personal preferences, and giving yourself permission to choose again.Link in bio👉🏾👉🏾Confession time: What’s one fashion rule you followed for years before realizing nobody was enforcing it? by @ms.b.styling

Over the years, I’ve heard women say all kinds of things:“I can’t wear sleeveless.”“I’m too old for that.”“I don’t have the body for that.”“I could never pull that off.”What’s interesting is that many of these thoughts don’t feel like opinions anymore. They feel like facts. Not because we’ve recently examined them and decided they’re true. But because we’ve carried them around for so long. Some of those thoughts may still fit who you are today. Some may not.The interesting question is whether you’ve ever stopped to look at them again. That’s what inspired this week’s article.I’d love to know:What’s one style rule you’ve followed for years? by @ms.b.styling

One of the biggest mistakes I see women make when shopping is falling in love with an outfit instead of a piece. An outfit is one way to wear something.A piece gives you options. When I ordered these navy pants online, I wasn’t thinking about one outfit. I was thinking about possibilities.Could I dress them up?Could I dress them down?Could I wear them with pieces already hanging in my closet? The answer was yes. That’s why I felt good to order them. The pants are new. The outfits aren’t.What’s one piece in your closet that works harder than everything else? by @ms.b.styling

I bought these pants because I could already see four outfits. Not one.Four.That’s become one of my favorite shopping tests over the years. Before I buy something, I try to picture at least a few ways I could wear it using pieces I already own. These pants may look bold, but they’re actually surprisingly versatile. In one outfit, they feel relaxed and casual. In another, they feel a little dressier and a lot more playful.Same pants.Different vibe. That’s usually what I’m looking for when I shop. Not another outfit. More possibilities.I’ve found that the pieces that earn their keep in my closet are the ones that can live more than one life.So many women tell me they have nothing to wear. Often the issue isn’t a lack of clothes. It’s that they’ve only imagined one outfit. What would you pair with these pants? by @ms.b.styling
