H E R I T A G E & H I E R A R C H Y

Some societal observations in my nearly half-century of dancing on this rock, that have been intensified by the events of my latest half-decade.

As the world has “individualised” success, failure, archetypes and propensities, this Heritage Day, I’m reminded, most starkly, how much NONE of these appears in a contextual vacuum.

We can be oppressors in one context and revolutionaries in the next, depending on the hierarchical or societal design of our setting.

Yet, society has become, “Every One For Themself, Till I Need Your Help!”

Be it war, wealth, femicide, career trajectory or even love and care…

Surely, this can’t be what “Heritage” implies…?

The concentric circles of
FAMILY
COMMUNITY
CORPORATE POSITIONING
NATIONAL or POLITICAL INFLUENCE
REGIONAL POWER
GLOBAL DOMINANCE…

…are all social circles factoring age-, gender-, racial-, religious-, wealth-agnostic scales of power, that impact how we show up to sew the tapestry of our heritage.

The key to #HeritageHarmony is our consistency across all these societal spaces.

Are you an intra-friendship oppressor but a corporate revolutionary…?

Are you familialy oppressed, but a gender oppressor…?

Have you taken your racial oppression out on the oppressed by sexual orientation?

How consistently do YOU show up, as compared to what you will describe your “Heritage” to be tomorrow?

These days, the only thing I get dressed up for is puppy 🐶 physiotherapy appointments… 😩🥲

At some point MediPet is gonna be like, “Hayi, kwanele!”

The litres of doggy wee-wee I have wiped up! 💀
The diapers I had to roll up. 🥲
The 💩 I have woken up next to. 😩

Thanks to some of my fave 🇿🇦 brands for helping me look *somewhat* not like my problems for today’s physio!
