Some journeys are not just about reaching the finish line; they are about who you become along the way.

Completing the WOMATE She Leads Climate Mentorship Programme, Cohort 2, is more than a milestone for me. It is a reminder that meaningful change begins with learning, unlearning, asking questions and having the courage to take action.

Throughout this journey, I have gained valuable insights into climate leadership, understood the importance of addressing systemic challenges, and been reminded that creating lasting change requires more than good intentions; it requires commitment, collaboration and action.

I am grateful for the knowledge shared, the connections built, the conversations that challenged my thinking, and the opportunity to grow alongside inspiring women.

I may be completing this programme, but the journey of learning, leading and creating impact continues.

From learning to leading, and from leading to creating change.

Thank you, WOMATE, for being part of this chapter! by @ms.mulhat

MY CLIMATE LEADERSHIP VISION

I want to become a climate advocate who uses creativity, communication and community action to inspire change. Through my WOMATE journey, I hope to grow my knowledge, learn from others and help build a cleaner, fairer and more sustainable future for our communities.

I believe small actions matter, but lasting change also requires collaboration, responsible leadership and accountability. This is the impact I want to work towards, one step at a time. Learn. Connect. Lead. Create change.

“FOR: Systemic Climate Action”

Individual actions such as recycling, saving energy and reducing waste are important. But they cannot substitute for systemic change.

The IPCC shows that people’s climate choices are shaped by infrastructure, technology and access to services. In Africa, energy access and infrastructure challenges also affect what sustainable choices are realistically available to communities.

The counterargument is that individuals have the power to change their behaviour. I agree but individual action alone cannot transform energy systems, public transport, waste management or corporate production.

Real climate action requires responsible citizens AND accountable governments and corporations.

“What do you think: Can individual choices solve climate change without systemic action?”

Kila hatua ndogo ni maendeleo. by @ms.mulhat

Last week reminded me that sometimes, the best way to understand the future is to give young people a chance to show you what they see.

We spent time with students learning about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but we didn’t want it to be just another lesson where someone stands in front of a class and talks.

So we gave them the space to express what they understood through ART.

And honestly… they surprised us. 🥹

They sang. They performed. They created. They turned waste into something meaningful. They shared their ideas about the SDGs and showed us that creativity can be a powerful way of learning and communicating.

Watching them, I kept thinking about how different their childhood is from ours. When we were their age, many of us were simply playing without knowing words like “sustainability,” “climate action,” or “gender equality.” Yet here they were learning about global challenges and already thinking about the kind of future they want to create.

And the most beautiful part? They weren’t just learning about the SDGs.
They were imagining themselves in the future they were learning about.

On the second day, we joined the Netherlands Embassy to raise the SDGs flag in commemoration of SDGs Day. 🇺🇳
Then we went back to the students, where they presented what they had learned and shared their dreams for the future.

Their confidence. Their creativity. Their curiosity. Their dreams.

It reminded me that young people don’t always need someone to give them all the answers. Sometimes, they simply need someone to give them the space, the tools, and the opportunity to be heard.

And when you do?
They show you just how much they can do. 💙
The future is not only something we are preparing for.
It is something they are already creating. by @ms.mulhat

What a Journey of Learning Leadership

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School in Kibaha.

It was truly an amazing experience. I learned so much about leadership, communication, training others, teamwork, and the responsibility that comes with empowering people.

One of the most meaningful parts was learning that leadership is not only about being able to lead, but also about being able to equip others with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to lead.

We were also honoured to have Cde. Sophia Shaningwa, Secretary General of SWAPO Party–Namibia and a member of the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School Board, as our Guest of Honor.

I’m grateful for the knowledge, the conversations, the connections, and the lessons I’m taking with me from this experience.

Some experiences give you memories. Others give you a new perspective. This one gave me both.
