The owner @msgrooves of Grooves of Houston @houstongrooves takes us back to the time @lhhoustonchurch The Lighthouse Church brought CHURCH to Grooves turning one of Houston’s most popular nightlife venues into a place for worship, fellowship and brunch.

Can you have CHURCH in a venue where alcohol is served? @pastorkeion

Over 15 years ago, I began a journey that connected me with the Drexler family. This connection changed my life and became so much more than business. I entered this journey with no money, no experience, and no knowledge of the business. The world was against me and it seemed impossible; but I was blessed with this family who believed in me, even more than I believed in my self, and gave me an opportunity.

Clyde, my landlord, could have easily put me out a long time ago, but instead, he gave me a chance. His sister Denise, who has been my business manager throughout this entire journey guided me through. And one of my biggest cheerleaders was their mother, Mrs. Drexler.

The building Grooves occupies today carries a beautiful history. Clyde originally built it for his mother and her business, Drexler’s Barbecue. Every appliance, every piece of equipment in that kitchen, and those two ginormous smokers were built for her. Before it was Grooves, it was hers, and her legacy lives within those walls.

Mrs. Drexler reminded me so much of my grandmother. She believed in me and encouraged me through every up and down. I have an immense amount of love and respect for her, not only because of the woman she was, but because I have been blessed to carry on a part of her legacy in the very building created for her.

She made sure this place remained in her family, while still allowing me to become part of its story. She welcomed me, believed in me, and championed me for all these years. For that, I will always be grateful.

And one thing I know for sure: Mrs. Drexler loved my grits! And that made me happy…

As we say farewell, my heart is filled with gratitude for the support she gave me, the faith she placed in me, and the way her family became my family over these past 15 years.

With so much gratitude and so much love, my heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Drexler family.

Rest well, Mrs. Drexler. Your beautiful legacy will live on. ❤️ by @msgrooves

In Honor of Black Business Month:

Help us send some love to our Bosslady @msgrooves .
ICYMI This year marked our 15th Year Anniversary; none of which would be possible without our supporters or @msgrooves continued faith, sacrifices, diligence, fasting, vision or leadership.

In today’s climate of uncertainty for black businesses, we do not take it lightly that our doors are still open, nor do we take it lightly that @msgrooves is the greatest boss ever! In 2011, her vision for success opened doors for us and now, she’s added two more businesses to her portfolio: an ambulance company and a hospice company. Join us in celebration of @msgrooves for Black Business Month in the comments. 👏🏼👏🏼

Most people know me as Ms. Grooves, the owner of Grooves of Houston… I realized I haven’t done a great job of sharing another important part of what I do. 💕

I’m also the owner of Glen Valley Hospice & Palliative Care and Eclipse Ambulance Service. 💚💙

One of my biggest missions is to help change the way people think about hospice. Hospice does not mean giving up. I want to break down the myths, ease the fear, and help families understand the incredible care, support and benefits available to them.

If you know me from Grooves, I hope you’ll get to know this side of me too. ❤️
