Thank you so much to abc7ny and Michelle Charlesworth for having us on this morning to spread a message of kindness and acceptance. I am beyond honored to be running the @nycmarathon representing my grandfather and @mshefoundation. Every time I get to share the stage with my grandfather is a true blessing and privilege. by @mshefoundation

A little funding can go a long way. We've seen firsthand how these grants spark curiosity, empathy, and a deeper commitment to standing against hate in the classroom and beyond. Swipe through to see what's possible.

For educators, a $1,000 MSHEF Education Grant can be the difference between reading about the Holocaust and truly understanding it, through books, museum visits, survivor testimony, and hands-on projects that stay with students long after the lesson ends.

100 teachers have already applied! Grant applications close October 2nd! Apply now via the link in our bio.

What happens when students have the opportunity to experience history beyond the classroom?

With support from an MSHEF Holocaust Education Grant, students from the University of Texas Arlington (@utarlington), led by Dr. Joanna Johnson, visited the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum (@dhhrm_org).

For one student, learning about Nazi killing centers beyond Auschwitz made the scale of the Holocaust feel more immediate:

“It’s often hard to see just how many lives were lost and even harder to understand the reality of it despite the charts.”

Experiences like this help students move beyond statistics and connect more deeply with the individual lives and human stories behind the history.

MSHEF grants help make that learning possible.

Today, we remember the lives lost in the October 7, 2023 terrorist attacks and recognize the survivors, families, and communities forever changed by that day.

As an organization rooted in Holocaust education, we believe remembrance carries an enduring responsibility: to confront hatred, preserve personal stories, and continue educating future generations with empathy and understanding.

🏃 Meet the Marathoner: Zach Hykan

Zach Hykan is no stranger to an endurance challenge—but his next one carries a particularly personal meaning.

This year, Zach is taking on his first full marathon at the Philadelphia Marathon in support of MSHEF.

One of Zach’s grandfathers was a Jewish World War II veteran, giving him a personal connection to the importance of preserving this history.

“In such tumultuous times, it seems more important than ever that current generations learn the history and context of the Holocaust.”

After completing challenges including a Half Ironman, the Leadville 100 MTB, and Unbound Gravel, Zach was ready for something new. Having the opportunity to dedicate his first marathon to Holocaust education gave him exactly the motivation he needed.

Now, every mile will help MSHEF provide educators with the resources and experiences that keep Holocaust history alive for future generations.

Join us in cheering Zach on and help make every mile count. 🔗 tinyurl.com/3zyz2fe5

Recorded live at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in NYC, Mark shared how his mother hid him and his sister for three years and asked them to stay quiet so they could survive. As a mom, I can’t imagine the strength it took to protect them, help them feel safe, and keep looking toward the future.
Mark said, “For me and my sister, we’re here thanks to her.”

Team MSHEF @nycmarathon runner Adena Rochelson is running in honor of her grandfather, Hersch Bornstein, a Holocaust survivor whose story closely mirrors that of our own co-founder, Mark Schonwetter.

As the granddaughter of a survivor, Adena is turning every mile into action, helping bring Holocaust education to schools nationwide.

We're excited to watch her represent her family and the importance of Holocaust education, through every mile until she makes it to the finish line.

Born in New Jersey and now living in Philadelphia, Matt Siegel (@mattsiegel_
) founded @shticktogetherphl, a Jewish nonprofit that brings together Jews across the political and observance spectrum to celebrate and take pride in Jewish identity.

Being Jewish is central to Matt's identity, and his great-grandparents were Holocaust survivors. At a time when Holocaust denial and antisemitism are on the rise, he can't think of a more important cause to support.

By running the @philly_marathon with Team MSHEF, Matt is turning his commitment to Jewish identity and remembrance into action, helping raise awareness and support so more students can learn the lessons of the Holocaust and stand against hate.

We're so grateful to have Matt on our mission's side, and we can't wait to cheer him on all the way to the finish line.
