👋🏻 HI! We’ve had quite a few new followers the past few weeks so we’d like to reintroduce ourselves! We’re Matt and SarahJane (the “MSJ” in MSJourney). We’re a young couple from RI who decided we wanted to drop it all and travel for a year. 🛣️We sold everything and bought a new to us a camper and truck. It was just a short 6 months from time of idea conception to hitting the road. Our year timeline has become “when we feel like we are done”. We upgraded to a camper that better fit our needs ….and didn’t have a massive frame flex issue. 📍🗺️Since July 2023 we’ve hit 29 states and a few places in Alberta (our rule is we have to camp or have spent a day/do an activity in the state). We adopted our adventure boy Buck. 👍🏝️🏔️🚵☕️🌲If you like traveling, camping, hiking, outdoors, biking, paddle boarding, dog friendly activities, food and coffee, we might be a good fit! Fall is an awesome time to travel, but don’t let unpredictable freezing weather ruin it! 🍂

We installed the Xtreme Heater in one of our camper bays to keep our pipes safe all year long. It is absolutely amazing for winter, and it can be used anywhere—not just in campers!

Why We Love It!

Saves money: Because we have a huge unheated space down there, this install actually cuts our heating costs.

Extra warmth: It keeps the bedroom directly above the bay much warmer. 🔥

Easy setup: Installation was a breeze. We mounted the unit with 4 screws, added extra vents for optimal airflow (optional), and tested the automatic thermostat with a blast of compressed air. It works like a charm! 🙌

Days 1033-1034 living in a camper | 📍 NW Montana

Traded my bed in the camper for the ground and a tent to enjoy the ultimate freedom.
Backpacking to an alpine lake to fish and take in the views with @adventures_with_buck_ and my adventure friends @homeskooled.life.

Days 1123-1130: ✈️ MT ➡️ RI ⚓️

One part about full-time camper life is planning around the big moments back home. Sometimes, that means leaving the rig behind and catching a flight.

We flew back to Rhode Island for my cousin’s wedding and spent the entire week cramming in as much family time as humanly possible. And let’s be real—eating all the local food we desperately miss. 🍋🌭We couldn’t leave without hitting Del’s, crushing some roast beef sandwhiches at the Beef Barn, eating too many “all the way” gaggahs, and of course, filling up on my mom’s dynamites.

The week absolutely flew by, but when we got back home to Montana, it felt like we had been gone forever.

Honestly, being in normal buildings again was so weird. It is a trip trying to adjust to the stillness—not feeling the constant, subtle movement of the camper, and realizing how accustomed we’ve become to the whole rig shaking whenever the other person just moves around. 🌲🚐

And I certainly can say after this trip, traveling around with your own bed and all of your belongings spoils us.
Traveling without having your house in tow was weird!

Day 1120 of living in a camper | 📍 NW Montana

If you told me years ago this would be my everyday view, I wouldn’t have believed you. Living this lifestyle means choosing freedom over a routine, finding hidden spaces where the world feels completely still, and actually having the time to enjoy it.

But the best part of choosing a different path is finding your people along the way. Sharing these moments with friends who have the same mindset and values makes it all even better.

Day 1117 living in a camper | 📍 NW Montana

Another day playing with my friends outside. Caught my first ever Arctic Grayling and couldn’t believe my eyes! 🐟

For me, the absolute best part of RV life is finding the hidden nooks and crannies you would never discover any other way. Doing the things we love out in wild spaces is what feeds me.

Days 1114 & 1115 | 📍 Kootenai National Forest

Bet ya couldn’t tell I was battling wildfire smoke side effects! 🌲💨

The smoke has been brutal the past few weeks, and it got really bad right before I left. Turns out, my body does not love heavy doses of it. By the time I reached the fire tower, I was dealing with body aches, a tight chest, an upset stomach, and total exhaustion.I was basically living on ibuprofen just to function. Let me tell you, sprinting down three flights of stairs and across the summit for emergency bathroom trips was an adventure every single time. 😂

But as Hannah Montana once said, life’s what you make it. I sucked it up, made the best of the situation, and still enjoyed the view! 🏔️✨

There are tons of fire towers out there—some you can drive right up to, and others require a serious hike. A lot of them operate on a first-come, first-served basis, but honestly, those are rarely well-maintained. Last time I did one of those, I spent the whole night with spiders crawling across my face waking me up! 🕷️😳

This tower, though? Complete game changer. It actually has a furnace that kept us incredibly toasty at night when the wind was howling and it dropped into the 30s—and yes, this is August we’re talking about! 🥶🔥

Honestly, it was almost too comfortable. If I hadn’t been feeling so sick, I would have actually missed the challenge of roughing it!

(P.S. If you want to book one of the nice, maintained lookouts like this, you can rent them directly through Recreation.gov. Just plan ahead, lock down your dates, and maybe pack some extra ibuprofen just in case! 🗓️🎒)

The best places always require a long dirt road, zero cell service, and absolutely no people. Just a fulfilling day of good views, fishing, and a solid buddy by my side. The wild and scenic North Fork never disappoints.

Day 1,092 living in a camper | 📍 NW Montana.

Buck and I spent the entire day at this gorgeous lake doing what we do best—swimming, fishing, and soaking in the views. And honestly, no Montana adventure is truly complete without a wild eagle sighting. 🦅

As always, leave no trace and if you’re putting in water craft make sure they are clean and dry to keep these waters as beautiful as they are!
