"Star Trek: Beyond (2016) - Tenaxi"

  #throwbackthursday of some of my older VFX Film work. I am so proud and humbled when I look back at previous achievements, and sometimes we all need that positive bump to keep us moving forward at the pace we do in #film.
Had SO much fun working on "Star Trek: Beyond (2016)" as a Lead Look Dev at #DNEG #VFX *Remember it takes an ARMY to make these, with Production and Studio Facility staff, Supervisors, Animators, FX artists, Lighters, and Compositors to make these cool Films. Want to share about the 'Tenaxi' because of how much work and development we did and I personally had the opportunity to do. It was so rewarding to help support so many great artists working on a ton of assets but I was lucky to also work on so many assets but also concepts, shader development, texture, zbrush sculpting, and shot lighting work. cant/wont call-out ALL the amazing people who contributed to these, but please DM me and I will add ya!!!
Working closely with VFX Supervisor and Marco Menco (Go follow his Art - @onelasagnacat ). Marco was the Creature Lead/Supe who managed the modeling, facial BlendShapes, muscle, cfx, to list just afew! For the Tenaxi Critters we had a fvck ton of creative challenges. My task was to concept and develop the final look and variations. Shark 'spot' patterning was the solution, after watching 'Dax' on Star Trek: DS9 ended-up being most successful.   Adding the spotting around the face and back, countershading, and reptilian scales to help break-up large spaces like the shoulders.  *sorry for the essay?

"Dune (2019) - Spacing guild frigate"

I don't usually post about my professional work.... but starting today I will use #throwbackthursday to share more! I am so proud and humbled when I look back at previous achievements, and sometimes we all need alittle positive motivation and inspiration.

As a CG Supervisor in VFX I do not get to do the actual shot/asset work much anymore, but between managing shows I had the opportunity to help on Dune (2019) as a Sr. Artist doing Look Development (just the shader work) on the "Spacing guild frigate" ship. SO many people worked on this film for YEARS, it was so humbling to join late in production and see all the amazing work already done. This asset was concepted by another studio but Modeled, Textured and Supervised by the amazing team at DNEG Studios, in which they won several awards for. Again hundreds of artists, production staff, concept, lighters, environment artstists all contributed to the shot and film. I was lucky to be able to the shader work with such an amazing model and texture work, making the job easy! I did some minor texture work as you'll find a better result when working collaboratively with others. I followed the Direction of the amazing DNEG Asset CG Supervisor who deserves alot of credit and managed the show from start-to-finish and maintained such a high calibre of work that made it to the screen.

Does my OLD #conceptart look like it came from #midjourney? It's all #photoshoppainting! So for #thowbackthursday I'm uploading some OLD concept art from 2007-2010 because I see so many similarity's in the work I've been generating using #ai, but this is #notAI and not #notaiart !
Am I a computer? Or is the computer just in tune with my creativity and vision?

I love the debate going on right now about art and computers, and accreditation.
