⚡️Sie kommt⚡️Sie kommt⚡️SIE KOMMT⚡️I am thrilled to be dusting off my crown 👸🏼 and heading down to the @savannahvoicefestival this August to sing Queen of the Night in Mozart's 'Die Zauberflöte'. I made my professional debut as QOTN four years ago at @eugene_opera (pictured) under the baton of @mobisantz, and I'm delighted we'll be reunited in the same context, just a little further south and east. Looking forward to lots of high F's and lots of scoops of @leopoldsicecream 😋🍦📸: Eugene Opera (2022)#queenofthenight #opera #operasingersofinstagram by @msoperageek

On this day in 1794, the Martyrs of Compiègne: 16 Carmelite nuns were executed by guillotine just 10 days before the end of what was known as the "Reign of Terror" during the French Revolution. Those 16 nuns later were venerated as saints in the Catholic church, and were a basis for possibly my favorite opera: Poulenc's 'Dialogues of the Carmelites'.Sister Constance was my second-ever fully staged opera role, and it was the first full role I ever performed at the @savannahvoicefestival. This production was so special for everyone, that it is still regularly talked about in the circles of Savannah VOICE Festival seven years later. It was directed by Fabrizio Melano, who worked with the likes of Callas, Pavarotti, and Sutherland at the @metopera during his tenure as a stage director there, and conducted by @mobisantz, who I've since worked with on three other productions. We will make it four starting in just a couple of weeks when we begin rehearsals for Mozart's 'Die Zauberflöte'.Savannah took a chance on me in 2019: Trusting me with this substantial role fresh out of undergrad. It was one of the best learning experiences I've ever had as a performer, and one I think about to this day. Since then, the wonderful staff that make up the festival have nurtured me, opened doors, invited me back for several seasons and, most importantly, have become my second family. See you soon, Savannah! ❤️#operasingersofinstagram #opera by @msoperageek

It was such a privilege to work one on one with @thomashampson this weekend on Königin der Nacht before I head down to the @savannahvoicefestival next month for 'Die Zauberflöte'- which opens one month from today‼️I first worked with TH when he personally invited me to join his @opernwerkstattwaiblingen in 2021, which turned out to be one of the most transformative weeks of my life. Thanks to his monumental performance and teaching backgrounds, along with his vast knowledge of opera, Lied, musicology, and history, I've left every session of ours with a goodie bag full of new ideas and revelations. For the last year and a half, I've also had the joy of being on his PR team at @lennysstudio, allowing me indirectly to continue soaking up knowledge from afar by compiling footage of his masterclasses, performances, and other materials. Thank you, TH, for taking the time between your 'Nixon's at @aspenmusicfest and @tanglewoodmusicfestival! And also a big thank you to @ttbloomerang for playing for our session! 🎹#operasingersofinstagram #opera by @msoperageek

The opera world lost a giant today: Mezzo-soprano, teacher, and mentor Mignon Dunn, at the age of 98.I was lucky to work with Mignon many times: In Montréal and New York as part of @icavcvai and @ivaiopera, and in her performance class at @msm.nyc. While I learned a lot from her in terms of technique, the thing I loved most about our lessons was her story-telling. It didn't matter how many times she told me the story about singing 'Carmen' with Franco Corelli at the Arena di Verona, and that halfway through she couldn't remember what language she was singing in, because yes, she sang Carmen in four different languages throughout her career. Four. Or how Jon Vickers' eyes turned white with intensity as Don José, opposite her Carmen in Act IV. The way her eyes danced when she talked about the roles she'd sung, the places she'd been, and the people she'd worked with was my favorite part of any of our sessions. I also loved when she left messages on my phone starting with "Hey, puss!", and after I finished a difficult phrase: "Great job, kitty cat!" in her Tennessee drawl.Safe home, Mignon, and thank you for the countless stories, laughs, and nuggets of wisdom. I just know you'll be continuing to wink down at all of us as you always did when you caught any of our eyes 😉❤️For those unfamiliar with her singing, boy are you in for a treat. Please check out the following links to recordings of some of her signature parts. I will also include the live links in my Stories:Ortrud in Wagner's 'Lohengrin': https://youtu.be/6phsy-KOMEEKlytämnestra in Strauss' 'Elektra (alongside Birgit Nilsson): https://youtu.be/KnVL6uQJ_Fk approximately 27:30-52:00Venus in Wagner's 'Tannhäuser': https://youtu.be/bj4_ET1zOuY by @msoperageek

To: @sfgiants / From: A Pride Night attendee 🏳️‍🌈Dear San Francisco Giants,While I was in San Francisco a couple of weeks ago for a work/vacation trip, I attended a game at @oraclepark between the Cubs and the Giants. It just happened to be Pride Night, and I knew I was in for a fun evening. The fun started on the MUNI train to the ballpark. When I got on at Powell St, it was packed with fans in orange and black and rainbow. I heard one woman announce to everyone in my car: "It's Pride Night at the Giants game so if you're straight you should give up your seat to a gay person." The whole car erupted with laughter. As I did my usual pre-game lap around the field-level perimeter of any ballpark I visit, I saw countless LGBTQA+ couples and friend groups laughing and enjoying the atmosphere. Everyone was having a great time!I took my seat in the upper deck so I could enjoy the pre-game festivities. I knew there was going to be a Pride Night fireworks spectacular after the end of the game, but having flown from the east coast that very morning I wasn't sure I was going to make it (I didn't). Never had I ever been more moved, moved to tears even, by a pre-game ceremony. 10 LGBTQA+ couples took the field to renew their vows, with drag queen @thepeacheschrist hosting. We heard each of the couples' stories, and it was a beautiful presentation of love and unity. Once the game began, the stands were packed, even in the nosebleed section in which I was sitting. With the memory of this joyous night still fresh on my mind, I was that much more disappointed to read how the Giants management and Giants President of Baseball Operations @busterposey are refusing to address the behavior of some of their players. @mlb assured that no Giants player was forced to wear the Pride Night caps with the "SF" insignia in rainbow, yet even so, three Giants pitchers that evening wrote Genesis 9:12-16 on their caps, indicating that rainbow, as a symbol, is for God only. Not gay people. As an ally of the gay community and an attendee of that very game, I find this abhorrent and cruel. Apologies are owed to the fanbase and the SF gay community at large. Do better, Giants. 🏳️‍🌈 by @msoperageek

🎶"I left my heart in San Francisco"🎶 What an incredible weekend jam-packed with music, friendship, sea lions, chocolate, and a lot of steps! I hadn't been to San Francisco since I was in middle school, and even then I knew I always wanted to go back to the City by the Bay. Happy Birthday to one of my all-time favorite composers: Richard Strauss!! 🥳 Today seems like the perfect day to share some exciting news: Next season, I will get to perform my very first full Strauss role, Naiad, and cover one of my absolute dream roles, Zerbinetta, in 'Ariadne auf Naxos' at @sarasotaopera!! I'm grateful to @raruss_opera, Arthur Borsage, and the entire team at Sarasota Opera for bringing me on as a Studio Artist, and I look forward to being in residence from early January to late March. Trading my snow boots for flip flops won't be such a bad perk either 😉🌴☀️#operasingersofinstagram #opera #sarasotaopera by @msoperageek
