POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Last year, I walked into the Yale Innovation Summit with an idea.

This year, I walked away with First Place.

My Uncle Calls Me Spike was awarded First Place in the Artistic Works, Experiences, Brands & Franchises track at the 2026 Yale Innovation Summit.

What makes this moment special isn’t just the award. It’s looking back at the journey between those two moments.

The late nights.
The rewrites.
The conversations.
The moments of doubt.
The moments of clarity.

The people who listened to me talk through this idea over and over again.

The people who challenged it, encouraged it, and helped me see what it could become.

A huge thank you to @yale_ventures and everyone involved with the Yale Innovation Summit for creating a space where artists, entrepreneurs, innovators, and dreamers can share ideas and imagine what’s possible.

And thank you to the people already walking alongside this project. You know who you are. Your support, feedback, encouragement, and belief have meant more than I can put into words.

This one is for the little girl who picked up a camera and finally found her thing.

Be very intentional with who you partner with.

Don’t believe the lies of the solo entrepreneur working out of his garage alone eating ramen noodles or the myths of someone getting out the mud pulling themselves up by their bootstraps.

After listening to hundreds of startup stories and ventures I learned there’s no one doing everything by themselves. Yet the myth persists, as a result creators crash and burn trying to do everything themselves.

When you align and connect with the right person things start to take off 🚀! It allows you operate in your zone of genius. taken in New Haven, Connecticut by @msoutlaw

Creating should be liberating, if it’s not you’re doing it wrong.

Somewhere along the line something happened or someone infiltrated your process or thinking.

I don’t spend a lot of time consuming content because then I’m not creating. Being curious by nature I ask a lot of questions before you know I’m down a rabbit hole.

I’m not into motivational speakers gurus or preachers screaming at me that doesn’t move. Once you reach a certain decibel I stop listening, volume doesn’t make you righter taken in New Haven, Connecticut by @msoutlaw

From the outside peeking in it may look like we’re just sitting around having fun not getting any work done and you’d be kinda right.

@msoutlaw and I are having fun and we’re getting work done.

I know how challenging it is for some people to talk on camera and that’s part of the reason for the work with young people, to give the confidence to create and communicate their ideas so it becomes second nature and carries over into adulthood.

Through my work in the community I come across some incredible people, nonprofit organizations companies brands who are invisible because they haven’t figured out how they want to show up online.

I think the world needs to hear different voices, different perspectives from people who look them not some contrived image of what someone thinks beauty or intellect looks like and sounds like. by @msoutlaw

What is a mini short?? I had questions @msoutlaw had answers.

Having a creative sparring partner is essential if you don’t want to get stuck in your head and limit your capacity.

Y’all stretch each other, battle test ideas, you don’t think the same and that’s a good thing because you’d start churning out the same ole boring stuff. taken in New Haven, Connecticut by @msoutlaw

The only way to find your creative flow is to create.

We can read about the thing, watch a video, attend a workshop, conference and listen to a podcast.

All those things are great at some point you have to create.

Everyone’s creative process is different. I have an appreciation for the creative process, artisans and people who take pride in what they create. taken in Bridgeport, Connecticut by @msoutlaw

Curiosity challenges the status quo. When you start asking questions and stop taking things at face value it becomes harder to manipulate you.

Why should major corporations and brands be the only ones to have strategic marketing and branding campaigns? We believe that local business, startups, nonprofits, entrepreneurs and authors should have access to campaigns that drive business results.

It’s been about a year since we celebrated @mexitalybakery grand opening in Bridgeport. @msoutlaw took a visit today to check out @mexitalybarnum

Run your own race is a common cliche used in marathon circles. It’s helpful if you follow the reminder come race day.

You can apply the same principle to building your business or brand. Trying to keep up with the jones gets a lot of people in trouble.

Delay does not mean deny, it’s often protection and or preparation for the next level or season. What I do know is any he tried to rush the process or skip steps I screwed stuff up making things longer.

I have no clue what season you’re in but wait on God. It is a blessing building with @msoutlaw

Most barbers cut hair their whole career and never touch the real money.

SMP is sitting right there in the same chair, same clients, same trust.

$50 haircut. $3K procedure.

Why is nobody talking about this. taken in Miami, Florida by @msoutlaw
