I'm back for my second year pursuing a PhD in STEM Education, and the first lessons of this semester have been impossible to ignore; drawn from four powerful texts that have truly captivated me.

In just one week of classes, and I find myself immersed in discussions on Black history, race, education policy, imperialism, and the scholars who spotlight how power influences our world.

One of the most exciting parts this semester is learning from Black professors who bring these vital histories and questions into the classroom. I’m soaking up the readings, but I’m also truly attentive to their teaching methods, the questions they pose, and the new perspectives they spark for my own research.

Being a researcher is something I love dearly. Equally, I am committed to serving Black students. As I develop as a STEM education scholar, I aim to keep these commitments interconnected, asking deeper questions, honoring the rich knowledge students bring, and creating inclusive spaces where they can truly belong.

These are just a few of the insights I’m carrying from this first week. 🖤
