Emotions are interesting.

It is important to honor them, but it is also important that I do not allow them to take over.

I can be quick to intellectualize my emotions - tuning in to exactly what emotion I’m feeling, and why.

The difference between seeking to understand my emotions and allowing myself to feel them is subtle, yet massively impactful.

When I let go of my desire to understand my emotions and create space for feeling them, a magical thing happens.

I am able to hear what those emotions are trying to tell me.

For example - let’s say I am feeling sad. I intellectualize, and determine that I am actually feeling lonely, and it is because I haven’t had a conversation with a loved one recently.

I might, then, seek out opportunities to talk to others to make myself feel better.

If I allow myself to feel sad, without desiring to understand what the cause of my sadness is, I can instead hear my inner child asking for attention.

Then, rather than seeking external comfort, I am able to sit with myself, talk to my inner child, and better discover how to make myself feel seen, appreciated, and understood, especially during periods with more solitude.

The challenge, turns out, was not that others weren’t talking to me, it was that I didn’t know how to be with myself.

Today, I am feeling grateful for the desire to pick up my camera and play.

Lately, I have been prioritizing craft in my creations: moving slowly, taking the time to fix mistakes, and focusing on the physical sensations present while I make things. Not only has this allowed me to practice being present with what I am doing, it has also increased my resilience.
About half of the way through knitting this scarf, I realized I had made an error in one of the cables (twisting, 3-dimensional rows of knitting). Initially, I opted to roll with it and modify the pattern to include the mistake on the other side, for symmetry. After some reflection, I decided to undo my progress and commit to creating this object as planned.
I felt frustrated, thought it would be easier to leave the mistake, and I even considered setting the project aside. Choosing to stick with it required I be patient with myself, present with the craft in my hands, and find ease in steady, slow progress. I am happy to say that after a transition period, this new mindset and workflow is as sweet as honey.
I am grateful to this scarf for the reminder to pump the brakes and savor the process, and I am excited to gift this to my friend!

an afternoon with @karmicallyfit

I had a lovely afternoon creating these images with Kris.
We met in Denver, and strolled through the city before wrapping up with a fabulous lunch and conversation.
Kris is bright, attentive, and thoughtful. Her energy has a deliberate slowness that I am inspired by, a gentle curiosity that is easy to open up to, and ample space for graciousness and challenge.
I am privileged to be building a life with moments such as this, where I get to know someone new and make art with them.
I am excited for what’s next! by @mspatgump

This is Poseidon, or Poe!
He is a sweet, sassy, sensitive, inquisitive, and brave cat.
He is quick to assert himself, and I think that confidence in his boundaries contributes to him being one of the most social and patient cats I have met.
He is also a natural in front of the camera - this was one of only three photos I took!
Props to @_potato_the_king_ for doing such a good job with this sweet boy. 🐈 by @mspatgump

my life may not look like what I planned for myself, although it looks exactly the way it is meant to. I am surrounded by beauty, people trying, people growing, animals, opportunities, moments of closeness, making art for the people I love, and am reaching a level of stability I never thought I would have access to.
thank you, each of you, for being a part of my becoming. I love us, and am looking forward to what is in store for us.
