Like a classic black and white photograph, some things never lose their value.

To the classic educator…

The one who still loves the feel of turning the pages of a good book.

The one who reaches for chart paper and markers to create anchor charts that live on classroom walls and in students’ minds.

The one who still believes a song, a chant, or a rhythm can help a child remember what matters.

I see you.

Like a timeless black and white photo, the foundation of great teaching endures. It may not always be the newest image in the frame, but its impact remains undeniable.

Being a classic educator doesn’t mean standing still. It means carrying forward the best of what has always worked while embracing new possibilities.

We can cherish books and leverage technology. We can create anchor charts and explore AI. We can honor tradition while evolving our practice.

Stay golden. Stay classic.

Because legacy isn’t about staying the same, it’s about ensuring what matters most continues to thrive in changing times. The tools may evolve, but relationships, curiosity, creativity, and great teaching will always be in style.

And just like that classic black and white photograph, some things become even more valuable with time.

I accepted the call to serve as a member of the Administration Commission of the New York State Alliance of Black School Educators.

NYSABSE pulls together the people who usually work in separate rooms: classroom teachers, principals, assistant principals, superintendents, higher education, support staff, parents, and the retirees who built the path the rest of us are standing on. All of it is in service of New York’s children & communities, from pre-K through college.

Deanna gave us the words for it: 🌳 Rooted in excellence. Connected in Purpose. Growing in Greatness, but together we breathe life into it!

I said yes because I believe leadership is direction, and when visionary leaders unite, our collective voice can create the change we want to see by cultivating equitable, thriving learning environments for every child and educator.

Forty-four of us are all in for the cause. If you are an education leader in New York guided by purpose and not designation 🎯 and you want in, say so in the comments.

🌊 An Ode to Summer Vacation: We Owe Ourselves This Wellness

There is something stunning about the open sea.

Sleeping on what feels like a floating city and waking to the ocean reminds me how vast and beautiful the world truly is.

There is also quiet trust in the journey. We trust the crew to guide us safely, care for us, and create space for us to simply be.

For me, one of the greatest gifts was the stillness.
Without constant technology, I became more present. No notifications. No urgency. Just time to breathe, rest, laugh, explore, and fully experience each moment.

And with family by my side, connection was at the center; new places, shared experiences, and memories made together. ❤️

I’m reminded….We work hard. We lead. We serve others. However, self-care also requires us to pause, recharge, and experience joy without distraction.

Summer vacation is more than time off, it is the reset we need.

We owe ourselves this kind of wellness✨✨

Day 1 at Leading for Deeper Learning at Ulster BOCES offered meaningful opportunities to learn, reflect, and connect.

From powerful keynotes, to The Bronx Principal’s call of action to always put kids first!

A highlight was the Whole Child, Whole Brain Deep Dive, which led us through an engaging, collaborative experience that modeled the kind of learning every child deserves.

I was also honored to join two live podcasts:

🎙️ Unlocking Unlimited Potential with Brandon Beck

These conversations allowed me to reflect on my leadership journey, share what drives my work, and connect with others committed to supporting students.

Today reinforced the importance of centering our work on the whole child to create learning experiences that truly matter.

My shared reflection: How are we intentionally designing environments where every student feels seen, supported, and challenged to grow?

It’s important to push each other to lead with purpose and keep students at the heart of every decision.

As a proud Howard University alumna, it is an honor to serve as a Board Member and Corresponding Secretary for the Howard University Alumni Club of Westchester & Rockland County. My commitment goes beyond celebrating Howard, it is about extending our legacy into the community by helping students and families make informed postsecondary decisions and opening doors for the next generation.

Howard taught me that Truth and Service is more than a motto-it’s a way of life.

The Knicks win hits a little differently. 🧡💙

This one is for my son, Amir, who at just 10 years old has been a Knicks fan since he first learned to recognize the game. Through every win, loss, and tough season, he has stayed loyal.

One lesson that stands out from Jalen Brunson’s journey is that success isn’t just about winning, it’s about committing to getting better every day and perfecting your craft.

As we’ve watched the stories of players like KAT and OG unfold, we’ve seen that life doesn’t always go according to plan. Some chapters are filled with heartbreak, setbacks, and tragedy. But those chapters don’t define the whole story. The rest is still unwritten.

Tonight, the Knicks added a beautiful chapter to theirs. A reminder that perseverance matters, growth matters, and believing through the hard seasons matters.

For Amir and every dreamer watching: keep showing up, keep growing, and keep believing. Your story is still being written.
